When I was young, very young - far enough in development to speak simple, coherent sentences, but not much beyond identifying good or bad, hungry or thirsty, pleasant or dislikable - I used to cry sometimes and want to go home.

My parents would tell me I was home. They were very confused about this. I was frustrated as I could not fully express myself but I knew that home was not 'here'.

Honestly, I do not want to come back, not even as some of the beautful things some of you have suggested, although being a tree does sound tempting. I love staring up at tree limbs after the work day, just staring with vacuous mind. Peaceful it is.

    :)

I'd like to be a dedicated and good Buddhist monk in the Thai forest tradition in the very early 20th century - I know we can't go back in time, but we're dreaming right?? Living in the forest alone, but close enough to a village for alms, with good health and highly motivated to follow the Buddha's teachings. Maybe one or two other monks in the area and within walking distance of the monastery for the Rains retreat. A long and dedicated life.

a whale, if the oceans are not toxic when i reborn.

I always thought the whales were enlighten, just enjoying their lives, signing, talking to each others hundreds of miles away...

Did you know that whales are the only creatures on earth with a brain bigger than humans?

    I did not know that.

The life of a sea creature, swimming around and the vast, beautiful ocean sounds very nice.

A whale wouldn't be a bad choice either (assuming, of course, like you say, the oceans are not toxic by then). Actually all cetaceans (porpoises, dolphins, whales, etc) have larger brains for their body size than humans do. Much of that brain size though is for processing their echolocation data, so it's hard to make a comparison.

But how do they sign without any arms or legs? ;)
