meditation is needed no matter what!

edited May 2010 in Buddhism Basics
I just got insanely angry again..

you know why? because I haven't had enough meditation..or how I like to call it
"REVERSE brainwashing..."

think about it, no matter where we come from in Buddhism.
we all admit we have been brainwashed into delusion.

This is so important.

Our aversions and attractions are brainwashed into us..
or..... ego!!!!
it's polished like a deadly sword...
and yet as realizers we have to fight against this..

HOW HARD..what terrible agony this really is.

even though, i "GET IT" completely..that isn't enough...
unfortunately we all have to do a bit of WORK..

which i hate..
what advice should I give to young meditators? :

"Realize what you have to WORK ON, and do it.
If you f*** around, before you know it... you will be dying..
and wishing you didn't f*** around..."

realize that why you hate it is also a conditionning "brainwashed" into your ego.

just do nothing indeed, just turn it off for 2 seconds, repeat.

    Some thoughts:

There are quite a few schools of Buddhism where meditation isn't required to practice.

Meditation is a method for Right Concentration, it is not the path itself.

Meditation is clearly very beneficial to mental and physical well-being, irrespective of if it's done in the Buddhist context or not.

where did you get this idea?

Mindfulness in every day life is meditation.

Perhaps you meant to say "formal sitting meditation is not necessary"?

Shinyoen and SGI and I think other schools/variants don't rely on meditation in the sense I assumed that the poster meant:)

I was watching an interview with Jack Kornfield in which the interviewer asked if meditation was like self-hypnosis. Kornfield thought for a moment and said: "It's de-hypnosis." I think that's a very good description.

Don't "GET IT". I got it and lost it so many times it's tedious. How about becoming gradually less "Enlightened" a more (relatively) sane. That is how it goes when you practice in Sangha.

Are they coming to you? Are you presenting yourself a someone who "GET(S) IT"?

Hmm... so will you be bothering to come back to read the responses people took the time to write and partaking in the discussion you started, or has this been another enlightening fuck-and-run courtesy of TheFound? awesomeg.gif
