Oh man, what a crappy game the final was. Very dirty play (specially from the Dutch) and it was pretty much defense all the way. Spain did a better job during the whole match and they deserved to win their first World Cup.

Congrats to Spain and to the perma-second placers, Sorry! Maybe next time!

I don't know... I thought the Spanish were a lot of divers! :p

But good job to them, in any case.

Yes, I know it's only just started but I'm already fed up with all the flag-waving. Is it just me?

i'm from the netherlands and I haven't seen a single game. Not even when my friends we're at the bar getting terribly drunk, screaming, and then emotional when they lost in the finals from spain.

Above states also exactly why I never cared and never will.

(hint: drunk, emotional, screaming mutiplied by 10.000.000)

I don't even like soccer and I was still heartbroken when the Netherlands lost. And before that, when Germany lost. And before that, when Uruguay lost.

It was never-ending betrayal, this "World Cup." :(

I was most disappointed by the noise of the vuvuzelas on the world cup broadcasts (buzzing sound akin to a hive of angry bees). It made it nearly impossible to watch, especially since soccer isn't the most exciting spectator sport. I played soccer for most of my youth and I still don't enjoy watching games.

I personally don't mind watching American football with my friends. It's also fun to throw a football around on a cool fall day :)

Spain deserved to win. The players were hotter than Netherlands, although that van Persie guy was kind of hot. Still, I'm expecting smaller shorts on the next world cup. They used to be much smaller a few years ago. :(

LOL, you remind me of my friend who judges soccer purely on looks. Hahah. Sorry to tell you but shorts might not be getting any smaller. Unless there's some sort of retro move in soccer.

I usually do because I don't know much about football. BTW don't you find a bit gross all the spitting those men do? that and the fact that they keep falling on it, eeew.

I grew up playing soccer. It's a great game. But this professional version is simply ridiculous. They spend the entire game pretending to be fouled in hopes that the referee will grant them a free kick or give the other team a card:

    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ioyt2zzm530&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ioyt2zzm530&hl=en_US&fs=1&quot; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

part of the problem is the 90 minute running time. I know it's the way that it's always been done and they don't want to change things...but whenever a team gets the lead they spend the rest of the game faking injuries and delaying kicks/throw ins. If you just stop the clock during injuries and when the ball goes out of bounds, it would solve all the delay-of-game problems.

Agreed. Except I do rather like #1 and #3 and maybe #10 on the Netherlands team. :o (I don't know the names, shamefully enough.)
