    The "Laughing Buddha" is actually not based on the historical Buddha. The Zen monk depicted is called Budai (Chinese), or Hotei (Japanese). He seems to be revered more as a bodhisattva.

    A buddha would be neither fat nor emaciated because he or she would eat neither too little nor too much.

    true. the laughing Buddha is not the real Buddha, he is someone else entirely different.
