I think DD thought you were implying everyone should have a significant other, like you have, to be happy, when in fact you were saying everyone gets to realize whatever their own vision is. Yours just happens to be a householder's life, and you say you can be happy with that, because you're not attached. (I think)

    Are we un-confused now?

I think anyone who's experiencing bliss in their meditation is very fortunate, and, obviously, they're doing something right.

Ah. yes, i'm not saying that anyone needs anything. Quite the opposite. Noone needs anything. It's all up to us. We make our own choices.

We make our own choices, and it's all good, as long as we can remain un-attached?

There are no conditions. It's all good, period. All teachings serve a purpose. It is up to you to decide whether they are something you want to follow. Non-attachment is no different. Not being attached truly has great benefits. You're a buddhist, you know all about it. But don't do it because the buddha says it or I say it or anyone else. You are the truth. Therefore, simply discover yourself and you will discover the truth. Have no pre-conceived notions of who you are. Simply pursue happiness. Use the entire world and everything and everyone in it as your teacher, but understand that you can teach just as much as you can learn. Understand what makes you happy, and pursue that. For why live, if you're not happy?
  • did i say that? :-/
    Didn't you?
  • buddhism encourages 'non-harming':)
Yes, that /is/ a refreshing approach, compared to other religions, for sure, but I was surprised to find that it also seems to encourage non-pleasure (i.e. non-attachment).
non-attachment to pleasure; avoiding developing thirst (trishna literal meaning) for pleasure.

there's also jhanic bliss (advanced meditation blissful states)... and nirvana as written by westerners means "ultimate pleasure"! (it should be written nirvāna),
  • Right, I understand that. I can't find that quote of mine, now, but I think it was taken out of context. I think I meant that I was surprised to find that, similar to Christianity, Buddhism says sex isn't supposed to be for pleasure, but for procreation only.

Fortunately for me, I don't care what "buddhism" says, unless it seems true to me :)

  • No, I never got it, so I haven't sent you anything yet.
  • wtf. my messaging is all screwed up I think. Idk if it's letting me message people for some reason.

  • A Buddha does not engage in sex because he thinks it is wrong, but because his time is spend in tranquility of his spirit. So if you set out to resist vice because you know it is wrong, you may run into temptation, but if you truly know that vice is subject to suffering, you resist even the idea of it.
  • Nice perspective, fil, but not really on topic. :-/
