Dharma Party

lobsterlobster Crusty Veteran
edited May 2014 in Buddhism Today

Cycling through hell realms, ignorance and other unskilful places is no dharma fun . . . unless there are picnics . . .

What do you do for dharma fun? Put your hand down Mr Cushion, you are not allowed to answer . . .

Watch my football team play and try and develop equinimity toward the opposition.

Not always easy mind but a good practice nonetheless!

Hike, star gaze, soak up sunshine, play with the pets, garden.
From there to here, from here to there, Dharma fun is everywhere.

Try to bring dharma fun into everything I do.

I have this great trick. Every time I perceive I'm doing something Un-Dhammic, I swing my left hand up and bring it sharply and forcibly into contact with my left cheek.
To vary this, I occasionally do the same thing with my right hand, against my right cheek.

I look pretty in pink, most days....!

    Keeps me awake (small 'a'.....)

I am more gentle with myself @federica. When behaving in an undhammic way I eat a pork pie.

I am due to hit 25 stone next week.

I certainly would expect at the very least any Dharma Party would include pin the tail on the Buddha.

That's one hell of a lot of ass smacking. That has nothing to do with your new employment does it?

I sing a lot more than is probably sane, especially love to play along with my uke. But the last time I did karaoke at a very high competition gay bar in Houston (I was seriously like shaking in nerves before I put on my "stage" face), I received an overwhelming applause and had several people tell me I was the best singer of the night. :) Makes me feel good that it's not a completely selfish hobby...

The challenge with 'fun' is that it's like a seal of approval to habituated preference.
It suits me better to not seize this opportunity to blinker myself to unfolding events.
Otherwise I think there is a risk of always waiting for something to happen - seeking for the 'fun' to stay or return.

Occasionally I'l play 'juice cubes', scrabble or angry birds on my phone.

Sometimes I'll write a little poem and sneak it my wife's purse. I don't do it often enough that she is expecting it; and the little thought put into it comes back to me as a smile lighting up her face.

Try it guys, particularly if you have a special date coming up ... :) ...
