Gratitude

edited March 2011 in General Banter
I feel like expressing my gratitude for having discovered Buddhism. Figured I would post this here so other people could share their gratitude as well. I don't have anything special to say really, just how grateful I am. I'm not very good with words so I'll leave it at that :)

Anybody else want to share or add something about their gratitude for having discovered Buddhism/Meditation practice?

  • Mmm yes gratitude... and our eyes were just closed all along... ;)
  • It's good to focus on gratitude. When the cares of the world come to seem overwhelming, gratitude for the positive things in our life is the antidote. Gratitude for sanghas, online and otherwise, of like-minded and like-hearted people. :)

Gratitude for the Dhamma, that makes the mind independent, including of the Buddha & Sangha.

    :om:
Then the Blessed One gave the householder Upàli the gradual Teaching starting with giving gifts, becoming virtuous, about the heavenly states, the dangers of sensuality, the vileness of defiling things, and benefits of giving up. Then the Blessed One knew that the mind of the householder Upàli was ready, malleable, free of hindrances, lofty and pleased and the Blessed One gave the special message of the Enlightened Ones: Unpleasantness, its arising, its cessation and the path to the cessation of unpleasantness.

Like a pure, clean cloth would take a dye evenly. In that same manner, the dustless, stainless eye of the Teaching arose to the householder Upàli, seated there itself. Whatever rises has the nature of ceasing.

The householder Upàli, then and there mastered that Teaching, knew and penetrated it. Doubts dispelled become self confident attained that state where he did not want a teacher, any more, in the Dispensation of the Blessed One.

He said. 'Venerable sir, we will go now, there is much work to be done. '

'Househoder, do as you think it fit. '

  • I'm grateful to be living in a time when we have this wonderful technology that allows us to learn, connect and share the dharma. It truley is a blessing. :)
  • I am grateful to have stumbled upon Buddhism. My life has been going in circles since the day I wad born and I finally feel like I have a path leading to something GOOD. I am also grateful for everyone here on this forum. For keeping open minds and open hearts and for their patience with newcomers like myself. Much love

I'm grateful for all the wonderful opportunities that I have managed to experience, rise to and challenge, with a Buddhist Mindset.
Buddhism has taught me to view things from a personal perspective, and to see that perception is mine, and things are as they are....

  • Gratitude to recognize bursted dreams as a rare opportunity to practice and maudlin? as not right to be in but wrong to try to be out of. Confusion to hold onto. So near but so far.
  • I'm grateful to countless practitioners of the past and present, including this forum, who contributed/ing to the teaching of Dharma.
  • When I first discovered Buddhism, all we had as a library with a few books on world religions and of course something by Alan Watts. If you were lucky enough to live near a little struggling Zen center then you could learn more.

I remember when people first talked about this new internet thingy. Oh, people lost a fortune thinking folks would shop for groceries and dog food over the computer, and everyone would work from home and such. People always vastly overestimate the immediate impact of transforming inventions, while vastly underestimating the long term impact.
  • I am thankful for Buddhsim and my life.
