Psychic links

edited April 2011 in General Banter
I dunno if this is gonna sound crazy, but do bhuddists believe in psychic links between people?

Comments

  • like telepathy?
  • nothing is separate from anything else, all is one, so maybe one could assume that it is possible. However, I myself have never come across it in buddhism or heard people talk about it
  • About 20-30 years ago my dad ran someone over on the road. My mum who was about 100miles away at the time ran to the neighbours to use the phone to call him because she thought something was wrong. This was back when not everyone had a landline.

I'm experiencing something similar (from time to time) with my ex, or at least it seems to be the case. Last two boyfriends she split with, I got in contact with her either just before or just after the split, just had an urge that something was wrong. The last was 3 days before the split after months and months of not thinking about her.

I'm really just looking for a way to stop it, but this might not be the place. Hell, might just be coincidence too - I don't really believe in God as such. I do, however, have a strong belief that everything is connected so there is a large overlap between bhuddist beliefs and my own.

Going by your responses this might not be the place to get answers for this. Either way, things have quietened down a bit again in the last few hours.
  • Does reading minds and seeing other worlds count as psychic links?
  • Ye, guess so. I've not had any experience with that myself, but I'm open to the possibilities ^^
  • well, those two are on the sutras...
  • Aha, is there a forum section that deals with that specifically?
  • Either forum section, or would you have a link ro something that I could read online? A book?

the Samaññaphala Sutra can be considered a howto or description of skills that now are considered psychic.

the only advice that I have is that psychic links can be much stronger than what one thinks... and even if that's interesting it can ruin relationships if the psychic link occurs spontaneously and neither is ready.

I believe in psychic links, though there are different levels of it. The most intense being possession(like in case of Tuesday Lobsang Rampa) and the light being intuitive.

I've heard it talked about that when some meditators gain high realizations they can develop clairvoyance, though its important to note that this is not the goal or the reason to practice Buddhism, its more of a side effect.

We had a member a few months ago who complained of psychic abilities developing after much time devoted to meditation practice. He found it very distracting.

We also recently had a member who said she was connected with her lama in samadshi, which sounds like a psychic link (she hadn't seen him in 10 yrs. or so, but they maintained this connection, she said). I think belief in this sort of thing is more common in Mahayana than Theravada.
