Transcending body

FenixFenix Veteran
edited May 2011 in Meditation
Body awareness is the first step to relaxation and meditation. How to transcend the body? Can we transcend it in any posture or maybe even in activity? Is lotus position the only real posture, really? What are the results of bad body awareness in a single session and in the long run?

Can body awareness be skipped and jump right into mind, heart and self awareness?

I think the transitions just occur naturally, I'm not sure if they can be forced or not. For myself, one day I just noticed that my awarness had shifted from by body/breath to the mind. Its not anything I tried to do and I'm not even sure when it happened. I don't study meditation very much I just do it, so maybe someone else knows better.
