  • I agree with @buddhajunkie we are all responsible for what we get out our interactions with others, whether it be online, in person, over the phone, or through snail mail :). I think each method of communication has its pluses and minuses and should be used as necessary. No method should be a replacement for any other.
  • I think there are many ways to contribute to the world, it doesn't have to be money. If a person wanted to contribute or make a difference through their time, energy, effort, skills, or guidance , it's still considered contributing in making a difference. Money is not the only way to do it.

Perhaps he thought that he can contribute more or make a bigger difference through his invention / ideas rather than through money therefore prefer to offer that instead.

Let's say you have a lot of clothing, but decided to contribute your time instead by visiting children's hospital to cheer them up with the natural sense of humor that you were born with. Is it fair to still get criticize for choosing to make a difference in this way and not other ways.

People have their own creative ways of making a difference. As long as a person contribute something to make a difference that's good enough. It doesn't have to be in one particular way.

    I hate to say it.
But when I look at tribal societies eg amazon,
    these people are never alone.
They do everything together n everything is shared.
Those were the good old days.
They didnt have modern medicine or cars but its
hard to be isolated or lonely in those societies.
  • No doubt sharing material things is a great way to make a difference to a certain group of people that you wanted to help. But sharing one's gift of invention can also make a difference in other people's lives as well. Sometimes contributing through one's invention can also make a difference in the lives of more people around the globe . Besides, there are people who donate a great sum of money anonymously and doesn't want their name to be publicized. For example, a nonprofit organization mentioned that they received one of the biggest donation from an anonymous donor.
  • My thoughts, if anyone cares to read them.
Thanks, Jason. The links were very interesting.

  • They had his Funeral Friday i wonder if he was cremated since he was Buddhist.
  • Is cremation the usual method in Buddhism? I just realized I've never even wondered what they do with their dead.
  • Different Buddhist traditions are different. Some Tibetan Buddhists have practiced "sky burial", but I think the majority practice cremation AFAIK.

BAH! Found on Reddit. Other faiths are already attacking him because he is Buddhist. The user who posted this is a Baptist missionary in Thailand.

It's strange that someone in the post above said " it's so very sad no one ever shared Jesus with him" . He lived in the US. I am sure plenty of people bring pamplets and flyers to his door and mailbox on a regular basis . It is more likely that he chose not to .

By the way how do they know where he end up or not end up after death anyways, by what religion he follow? It seems that there is a belief that somehow by simply being Christian you automatically go to heaven regardless of what you do and that by simply being a non-Christian you automatically end up in hell regardless of who you are or whatever you do.

Obviously what those individuals wrote is what they believe ( or at least believed at that the time they wrote it ) and I think this is why Buddhist principles value seeing beliefs for what they are and hold values in greater importance in life - for example, compassion.
  • Agree, to bad these people who claim to be Christian fail to head The words Jesus spoke, Love one another.
  • I am not sure if this has already been posted but one of the violent protesty churches is going after Jobs I found it humorous that they posted their negative emotions with iphones.
We truly have lost a good man. But is this true? I learned today in temple if we spend a lot of time moping and upset it will hold him back in to transition in to the next life. IS that just one way of looking at it?

Just read this about Jobs apparently he vowed to destroy Android and would spend all of Apple's money and his dying breath doing so

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15400984

This Buddhist attitude that people say Jobs had obviously did not extend to Google or any other Apple competitors that threatened its profitability.

Personally, I'd worry about my own practice not how Jobs' was going.

I just pre-ordered his biography by Isaacson.
  • lol, I read you loud and clear toybox. I have never had a smartphone for a variety of reasons, but I do not even use my non coloured screen phone as it is. The world however, and the people in it are going in a certain direction and there is little one can do about that. But I cannot sometimes help myself and my thoughts when I hear about twitter or mindless gossip that is so so sooooo important in people's lives today.

Now we know why he became a Buddhist:
