"All experience is preceded by mind, led by mind, made by mind. Speak or act with a peaceful mind, and happiness follows like a never-departing shadow." ~ The Dhammapada
"As stars, a lamp, a fault of vision, As dewdrops or a bubble, A dream, a lightening flash, a cloud, So one should see conditioned things." ~ The Diamond Sutra
"Here, O Shariputra, form is precisely emptiness and emptiness is precisely form; emptiness does not differ from form, form does not differ from emptiness, whatever is emptiness, that is form..." ~ The Heart Sutra
"When we’re deluded there’s a world to escape. When we’re aware, there’s nothing to escape." ~ Bodhidharma, (Wake-Up Sermon)
"To study the buddha way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be awakened by all things of the universe. To be awakened by all things of the universe is to cast off the body and mind of the self as well as those of others. No trace of enlightenment remains, and life with traceless awakening continues forever." ~ Dogen, Genjokoan
In spring, the cherry blossoms, In summer, the cuckoo’s song, In autumn, the moon, shining, In winter, the frozen snow: How pure and clear are the seasons! ~ Dogen
One of them is “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense”, attributed to Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha).
"I am" is a vain thought; "I am not" is a vain thought; "I shall be" is a vain thought; "I shall not be is a vain thought. Vain thoughts are a sickness, an ulcer, a thorn. But after overcoming all vain thoughts, one is called "a silent thinker." And the thinker, the Silent One, does no more arise, no more pass away, no more tremble, no more desire. For there is nothing in him that he should arise again. And as he arises no more, how should he grow old again? And as he grows no more old, how should he die again? And as he dies no more, how should he tremble? And as he trembles no more, how should he have desire?" [M. 29]
Hense, the purpose of the Holy Life does no consist in acquiring alms, honor, or fame, nor in gaining morality, concentration, or the eye of knowledge. That unshakable deliverance of the heart: that, verily, is the object of the Holy Life, that is its goal. [M.51]

Where would I possibly find enough leather With which to cover the surface of the earth? But (just) leather on the soles of my shoes Is equivalent to covering the earth with it
Likewise it is not possible for me To restrain the external course of things But should I restrain this mind of mine What would be the need to restrain all else?

Hatred is never appeased by hatred in this world. By non-hatred alone is hatred appeased. This is a law eternal.
"There are many causes I would die for. There is not a single cause I would kill for." -Mohandas gandhi Makes me think about death, murder, and self defense.... I think Im gonna ask a question about that.
"How can I be of use to others if I am of no use to myself?... How can I liberate others if I cannot liberate myself?.. May all beings have happiness and the causes of happiness.. May all beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering.."
Whatever there is in the mind: If our reasons aren't yet good enough, we can't let it go. In other words, there are two sides: this side here and that side there. People tend to walk along this side or along that side. There's hardly anybody who walks along the middle. It's a lonely path. When there's love, we walk along the path of love. When there's hatred, we walk along the path of hatred. If we try to walk by letting go of love and hatred, it's a lonely path. We aren't willing to follow it.

@JB3783, Yes, mindful self-defence is acceptable, Intentional killing is not. The degree of harm you wilfully inflict is commensurate with the kamma you create for yourself.

"Let no one deceive another or despise anyone anywhere, or through anger or irritation wish for another to suffer. As a mother would risk her life to protect her child, her only child, even so should one cultivate a limitless heart with regard to all beings. With good will for the entire cosmos, cultivate a limitless heart: Above, below, and all around, unobstructed, without enmity or hate. Whether standing, walking, sitting, or lying down, as long as one is alert, one should be resolved on this mindfulness. This is called a sublime abiding here and now. Not taken with views, but virtuous and consummate in vision, having subdued desire for sensual pleasures, one never again will lie in the womb." - Karaniya Metta Sutta

Move about though they posess no mind;
Likewise foundational conciousness too
Move about in dependance upon the body.

Three keys, love where you are, what you're doing, and who you're with
