Atheists, like other believers, can be insufferable. I liked
this forwarded video
because, in this instance, intelligence was not allowed to beat humanity into insensibility.

"Peace and Merry Christmas to everyone, especially little baby Jesus." :)

As a Buddhist for 16 years I still celebrate christmas with my family and enjoy the spirit of the christmas season and also don't feel the least bit intimidated or excluded by Christian christmas symbols.
  • It's easy enough to see the logic here and the message is one that many of us I'm fairly sure, may agree with. However, you don't need to be an athiest to disagree with the power of the church and the damage it has done over the centuries. In any case, as a buddhist practitioner, I see no benefit in becoming angry over it.

This was sent to atheist members of OKcupid this Christmas. I think it is funny.

The problem "Pat" is that in the United States. We have the separation of Church and State. The Nativity scene CANT BE ON PUBLIC PROPERTY!!!

Also Pat is a hypocrite. He has no problem with Christian stuff everywhere, but not Muslim stuff.

But Islam is not "part of our culture."

As an Atheist, I feel embarrassed by this.

I don't use Atheist as a label or anything, but I do feel like I'm associated with them via Atheism and I feel like I've had my name dirtied. This is bad.

If anything, I love Christmas and would want to preserve it. I'm not a Christian, but I would say that I'm a cultural Christian. My ancestors were Christians and to me a church is a museum. It's a piece of history. Churches are beautiful and show historical architecture. The silly traditions like Christmas are fun, and I see no harm in them.

Go to Scandinavia, look at the history of the Vikings and the festivals they have all over Scandinavia, Norway in particular. They're proud of their history and use its traditions to celebrate and have a good time. A friend of mine lives in Denmark and loves it because of this. But I bet you'd have a hard time trying to find somebody who worships Odin and Thor.

    Just my $0.02.
