Brigid,
I am so pleased to be able to wish you "Happy Birthday"albeit somewhat late. I very much appreciate the depth of your sentiments. Though none know their destiny I hope you will be here many seasons yet to come.

Even though I don't believe in superstitions I think this year, my 42nd, is going to be a really good one, 42 being the answer to the big question and all. It was also my room number when I was in Wales which until now was the best year of my life.
I also like to think that since numbers are scientific, maybe they do hold some significance. Then again, I'm the one assigning the significance here so...I guess this does fall under the heading of superstition.
Ajahn Chah would be appalled.
In any case, I'm going to willfully make this my best year yet by practicing on a much more regular basis (meditation I mean, I already do a lot of contemplation) and studying and moving more and getting this house in order to sell and all sorts of other good things. I'm psyched!
Happy Birthday, brother Richard!!! May this be your best year yet and I'm sending wishes for peace and joy to you and your whole family.
May the year ahead be your best one yet!
Just stick to your program and it will!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SIMON, PILGRIM! :birthday:
I rarely call you Simon, since I see you as that most exalted of all beings, a Pilgrim. Oh, to be a Pilgrim!
I'm anticipating your July 4th birthday by a few hours. When the sun goes down in the Cotswolds in a few hours it will be your birthday.
I've missed you tremendously on NB. I hope you're having a good rest.
:cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer:
Many, many more healthy and happy birthdays, you jolly dear fellow!

Oh absolutely.
I'm of a mind that all this 4th July business in the USA is just a front for celebrating your birthday really... come on USA, own up...It's all actually for SithePi, innit...??
Hope you are well.
We miss you like mad.
let us know - hugs always!
Thank you all for your kind wishes. I had a quiet and pleasant birthday, visiting a lovely garden (Hidcote).
I must also apologise for my long silence. For the past few months, my head has been full of cotton wool and all I could do was sit with it. It is not entirely unpleasant - a little worrying but there is always the Silence there, waiting for me. I hope that I shall be able to get back to reading and contributing to the discussions here: you are all still in my daily thoughts and prayers.
Who would true valour see,
Let him come hither;
One here will constant be,
Come wind, come weather
There’s no discouragement
Shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent
To be a pilgrim.
Whoso beset him round
With dismal stories
Do but themselves confound;
His strength the more is.
No lion can him fright,
He’ll with a giant fight,
He will have a right
To be a pilgrim.
Hobgoblin nor foul fiend
Can daunt his spirit,
He knows he at the end
Shall life inherit.
Then fancies fly away,
He’ll fear not what men say,
He’ll labor night and day
To be a pilgrim.
--John Bunyan
O, how I do love to hear Maddy Prior and the Village Band sing this!
Is there anything in the world more noble than the true pilgrim?
One of my favourite hymns from one of my favourite books.
So. let me share one of the last poems translated by a dear and much-missed friend from college who died, all-too-soon, at the age of 53, a woman who brought joy and delight and whom I miss greatly:
“O what will you do
If the day draws to evening
And night overtakes you
Alone on the mountain?
I fear not the night, for I carry the sun. . .”

Yes, Palzang! It is a sad day for the people of Iran and, by extension, the world.
Apparently nobody told those Muslim clerics it was your birthday.
I'm gonna party anyhow.:birthday::birthday::birthday:
