No this has nothing to do with the US president. It is a movie I stumbled across whilst living in a guest house last year. It has no spoken words, no script as such and it is shows out species in many different lights. From ancient civilsations, tribes, religions etc. It uses all real footage and usues clever editing and choice of music throughout. I loved it and I advise people if they have the time to give it a looki-loo. It is not for everyone because there is no plot as such, or spoken words or actors, just pure and raw human life. I could not remember the name because there was a thread about animal cruelty and
there is a scene with little chicks in it that really is quite shocking to see. Anyway here is the trailer.

we have already had to edit the thread with really dreadful carnage scenes, so i felt it fair to give good visible warning....
EDIT:
Actually, having now watched it - it wasn't so much shocking, as 'sobering'... kind of brings you up short, as you realise what the deal is.....
nice diversity... all on this tiny speck of dust in the cosmos....
but that too has been observed on this forum recently... linking the two together makes it more poignant....?
ok. thanks for that....
not sure i would now have the stomach for that....
our favorite at home, it's very very nice in HD btw.
they were able to convert it to hd even if it's old because of the film they chose to use at the time (70mm).
After a break of 20+ years since Baraka, the director has a new movie called Samsara.
As you can guess from Baraka, the director is a very experienced Buddhist meditator.
Samsara is doing the movie festival tour right now so it should be available in dvd in a year or so.

"The greatest visual experience that my eyeballs have ever witnessed."
we've been waiting for years for this one, cant wait!
Here it is, it is truely wonderful.
Then as the movie progresse to cities and such it grew at times dark. With the people picking through garbage dumps and the kabuki theater stuff. Then the movie ended with a return to the spiritual and natural stuff.

which is not from the Baraka director.
or Samsara the film (documentary) 2011
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0770802/
which is by Ron Fricke and I believe is very similar to Baraka, just more thought out and evolved since Ron spiritual practice must have grown quite a bit in the 20 years between Baraka and Samsara.
really cant wait to see it!!
just read it will be in theater by this summer.

Philosophical musing aside, if you liked BARAKA, you may also be interested in >Koyaanisqatsi< and a shorter film called >Chronos<, which deals with the monuments of our time and those of the past.
I find them all quite Beautiful, particularly with a decent video/audio setup, but also quite sad, haunting and overwhelming.
The family pets don't seem to mind (and much nicer bumping into love at every turn rather than some imposing statue)
