Right I don't know if I m being a right loony here as I m New to walking meditation but as I have to walk a few miles through country lanes on school runs I thought I d try to use this time ....on the way home yesterday I was alone and my mind was really quite still , it was a gorgeous day , it seemed trance like but has if the tall hedges and tree's were bowing down to me as I passed .....was I just knackered lol ? Focus & concentration or Openness.
The first tends to focus on a close attention to your steps and breathing, where as the second applies a much broader attention to all sense gate input as you are walking.
The focus/concentration of the first style can result in some distortion or inattention to your peripheral input and is best not used where you might end up sharing your walk with moving vehicles. It's better for Zendo's or specific tracks that don't require a wider attention to remain physically safe. .
The second form however is made for responsible walking meditation on unsecured meditation tracks because it manifests as a safer wider awareness.
Both forms have their uses but where the first can result in the bending of ones peripheral vision, the second will not.
I would suggest considering the second form for your lane way meditation walks even though you may lose your veggy exchanges.
Did they actually bow or did you 'see' them bow in trance?
How do you feel about it?
Do you have an explanation?
You saw something with your mind's eye... work with it I guess.
Lovely way of looking at it - I often feel that trees are dancing in the wind... or shrubs wriggle, ticklish under hose spray!!
Sometimes I'm surprised by the things I never noticed because my mind was so occupied.
