  • I'm going to guess that it is because the artist at that time was trying to make the ears distinct to represent extraordinary sense of hearing. Advanced meditation practice such as jhanas, is suppose to provide fruitful advantages such as heightened awareness, extra sensory perception etc., along with release from suffering.
