Why is the Buddha always depicted with massive ear lobes ? just curious is all !

    It's from the days when he was a Prince; he wore 'stretches' or big ear ring things. They're back in fashion too; my daughter was after getting some in.

    I'm going to guess that it is because the artist at that time was trying to make the ears distinct to represent extraordinary sense of hearing. Advanced meditation practice such as jhanas, is suppose to provide fruitful advantages such as heightened awareness, extra sensory perception etc., along with release from suffering.
