I couldn't find a better place for this thread so it ended up in general banter.

I am not one to get involved with politics much, but that is not to say that I do not know much about the subject. In the IS with its 2 party system, do you think i is possible the 2 parties are in fact just one organization and don't really dislike each other in reality? I think it is plausible and it would make sense to keep the nation under wraps. What are your opinions, discuss...

The electoral college system will ensure that the US will remain a two-party system. In addition, most Democrats and Republicans are, overall, to the right of most mainstream parties of the left and right in other OECD nations. I don't think any of this is due to a deliberately planned conspiracy, but due to a lot of political and cultural factors in the US. It isn't a good mix though.

I do think it is a joke that conservatives in the US think Obama is some scary socialist. No, *I* am more like a socialist--but not so scary, since I'll never have a voice here. Between lobbyists and the electoral college, "state's rights," and corporate media, nothing will happen too differently here to change the political landscape.
