Worthy, Wise and Virtuous:

The Blessed Buddha once said:
Utthanako analaso,
Apadasu na vedhati,
Acchinnavutti medhavi,
Tadiso labhate yasam.

Digha Nikaya III 273

Worthy, wise and virtuous:
Who is energetic and not indolent,
In misfortune unshaken,
Flawless in manner and intelligent,
Such one will honour gain.

  • Thank you. I love this Paramita. It is a stalwart companion through life.
The Buddha also said " The Bodhisattva stands on nothing' so gaining honor is not necessarily the object of Bodhicitta-the Bodhi mind. I think the idea of honor arises as an inspiration that leads us to care for others. Energy is a necessity. Best, Dennis

  • Right: Gaining honor is in itself not a Buddhist goal. Why not?
Craving for praise and fame is often a cause for suffering...

    Thanks for sharing that.

    Beautifully put together.
  • @Samahita, very nice teaching. I like these bite size pieces, because with the super long threads I often get dumped in the same spot in the middle of the post and have to see the same material over again or scroll down forever. Nice work :)
