Good Will Hunting is fabulous. One of my favorites as well. Miss Robin Williams
We don't really celebrate Valentine's Day. It's become somewhat of a joke and we enjoy figuring out ridiculous gifts for each other. One year, I got a mop, LOL. No flowers, thank you. I'd rather cut my own. No expensive chocolates, either, they go into the toilet like anything else, not worth the money. Generally, we make a dinner we both enjoy and call it a day.
Not a big romantic movie person. We're more likely to watch cooking shows on the Food Network. "12 Years A Slave" and the newest Planet of the Apes movie are waiting to be watched, though.

I think it was Robin Williams finest role. He was so versatile, very impressive. Years ago I used to act in amateur productions, it made me realise how good these people are at what they do.
I did sweet little valentines for the kids when they were smaller, but now...nah...
I'll be watching the sadest, most ideal romantic movie...
Of course....The Notebook!! Crying through the whole thing, munching on sugar free chocolates (I'm dieting)...and missing Hubby who will be home shortly. Forget Fifty Shades...the dining room sex scene in the Notebook will make me miss Hubby even more...hahahaha....Fifty shades is a little too dirty for me....Now, you guys have heard my motto..."I'll try anything twice"...but the dirty, rauncy can be done with anyone...the lovey dovey Valentine lovin' is something different all -together...hahahaha
I did see "A Fault in Our Stars" and thought that was pretty horrifically sad. I'm not sure I'd say it is great Valentine's material, but it's a nice story. "Gone Girl" might be a nice love story, LOL.
There was a reality star here who did a sex tape featuring a pretty strong shower curtain...the Home stores here sold out of the shower curtains in that week.....oh well...ropes, chocolates, eye covers, dining room sex....same thing. One man's mushy card is another man's shower curtain/whip...hahaha
BTW: the gold dust and feather are AMAZING for V day date.
It's the gentle, delicate flip side to 'hardcore'...The senses will thank you! lolol
To me, any old Merchant Ivory film will do: "Heat and Dust" and "A room with a view" are among my favourites.
Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson in "Something's gotta give."
"Henry and June," based on writers Anaïs Nin and Henry Miller's stormy romance in the Paris between wars.
"Monsoon Wedding" and (sorry to break the atmosphere) "Kill Bill..."
@Jeffrey said:> SpinyNorman I loooooovvvvvveeee Organic Chemistry!!!!!
(I'm going to explain hydrogen bonding to my girlfriend over valentines day wink wink nudge nudge)
I could never get my head round chemistry, too much to remember I guess. I have a much better feel for maths and physics though. When I did my degree I took modules in technology, electronics, computing, systems and renewable energy. Renewable energy was the most interesting, I've always been interested in electricity and had previously worked as an electrician. And I love wind turbines!
"Somewhere in Time" is such a dotty film that I'm almost ashamed to mention it, but it has made me cry every time.
John Barry's impecable music adds to the atmosphere.
Good news for @Jason...Portland, Oregon is hosting Cuddle Con for V-day.....feels a little creepy to me...but of course, I understand the crave for the connectedness....I just couldn't resist putting this in this thread....
I am still in love with Eco the Dolphin . . . (don't get weird . . . it is platonic . . . I am a lobster)
Reminds me of the time I tried virtual sex in Second Life. I had to go shopping for a penis . . . it was just too weird, people change gender, species, all sorts. I am just not good at shopping . . . However could be great fun no doubt . . . Two or more computers required and a straight face not required . . . just a thought . . .
@SpinyNorman for sure a lot to remember but for me it was blazed in my memory because it all fit together so if you remember a few pieces that can jog your mind on the rest. Some key concepts appear over and over again forever in chemistry. That's one reason it is a hard class. If you miss those concepts you won't even 'take in' what you need for the later chapters. Even if you study those later chapters you won't even 'see' what is there unless you did a lot of practice/study of the first chapters and concepts.
Anyways just like your clip I can 'just do it' like Beethoven could just play. Laboratory is a different situation with me and I am a below average when I was a graduate student and lab work.

I love 'Singing in the Rain'... every movie has a story behind it though...Apparently Gene Kelly was not 'flavour of the Month'....!
However, I truly believe Jean Hagen (Lena lamont) Made that film... what an inspired piece of casting....
You know the bit where Debbie Reynolds is 'over-dubbing' Lena's Voice, and says, in that wonderful warm tone "Our Love will last til the stars turn cold"...? That's not actually Debbie Reynolds' voice. That actually IS Jean Hagen, dubbing Debbie's voice - ostensibly dubbing Lena's!
One of my favourites is 'My Fair Lady'.... That too has a lot of hidden 'you'll never guess/behind the scenes' snippets....

I'm always a little envious of people with that kind of natural ability, though I also find it inspiring to watch. I'm more of a jack-of-all-trades type, I'm reasonably good at quite a lot of things but not really good at any one thing.

I don't think anyone here will ever match you at being SpinyNorman.
Thank goodness.
LOL My husband and I started dating Feb. 20th (in 2006) and the only movie showing at the time we could go was Curious George...so every year on our dating anniversary, we make calzones and watch Curious George. We do more to celebrate that than Valentine's day. We are making a nice dinner, and my son will be on his first real date at the same time. Scary.
Since my Valentine got a computer
My love life has taken a hit.
Nothing I say is important
Unless it’s a byte or a bit.
Before she got her new laptop,
Everything was just fine;
Now she says we can’t talk
Unless we both go online.
"But honey," I said, "I’m attached to you;
Love is what I feel."
"That keyword isn’t relevant,"
She said, with eyes of steel.
She clicked the keyboard furiously;
The screen was all she could see,
And then to my horror and shame,
She started describing me:
"Your motherboard needs upgrading;
Your OS needs help, too.
And you definitely need a big heatsink
To cool your CPU."
"Don’t flame me, my sweet," I pleaded.
"Not on Valentine’s Day."
"Fix the bugs, and I’ll see," she said,
While looking at me with dismay.
"What ever you want, my darling;
Whatever you need; you call it.
I’ll upload or download anything,
And then I’ll go install it."
(Her hostile CD keeps replaying,
And though I don’t want to fight her,
Is this what I want for a Valentine?
I’ve been burned; can I rewrite her?)
"Are you all hard drive now," I asked
"Is there no software in you?
Don’t you remember the good times?
Let our memories see us through."
"LOL," she said to me, chuckling.
"You’re nothing but adware.
"I’ve got eight gigs of memory;
I’ve got no problem there."
"Please, honey, we can save it," I said.
"Our love means more than that."
"That’s not in my cache; we’re going to crash,"
She said, as she turned me down flat.
(This woman has really changed;
Do I really want to chase her?
More and more I’m thinking
It might be nice to erase her.)
"Aw, honey, don’t talk like that," I said.
"Can’t we just plug and play?
I hereby accept default,
And I’m yours, my love, come what may.
My goal is to make you happy;
I want to be your portal,
But your sudden, distant coldness
Would test the strongest mortal.
If we need a brand new interface,
So we can FTP,
I’m your go along, get along guy,
And I want you to stay with me."
"If you want to get into my favorites," she said,
And you want to get past my encryption,
If you want to get through my firewall,
Here is my only prescription."
"First, put up your own Web site,
And e-mail me when it’s done.
I’ll check your page rank with Google,
And tell you if you’re the one."
My life has become a real trial,
Since my Valentine got a computer.
If I want her to care about me again,
I guess I’ll have to reboot her.

Yes...If you saw the movie "Her" it will bring it home for sure. I muddle through rather badly with technology...don't even own a smart phone.
The Notebook
Love Actually
The Hero (no not that one - the other one)
Turk 182
The Circle of Iron (good on any day)
Forrest Gump... that guy could love.
I recently started seeing someone for a short while. She texted me and ended things on Valentine's Day. Eh well. It wasn't going anywhere, but it still stings.

And then it won't.
I quite liked the love story in "Titanic". Yeah, I know, one of them went to an icy grave, but even so, it was well done.
