Primarily Zen

This is an intro to Zen
http://www.dharmanet.org/ZenPrimerNorman.htm

My formal practice tends to form around the shikantaza used by the online Zendo at treeleaf.org
http://practiceofzen.com/tag/shikantaza/

Zen answers, teachers and the occasional crazy crustacean are on this forum:

However I still make use of japa/mantra meditation and really need to do some meditation movement. That will probably be yoga or qi ong. I keep saying that but not implementing ... :3

Are you a purist within your Buddhist school/tradition?

When I first was introduced to the Dharma/Buddhism, I was under the impression, Buddhism was Buddhism, and that there was only one type... I would listen to whoever was teaching the Dharma and if what was taught resonated within, that was good enough....

I'm somewhat of a purist when it comes to the 4NTs & 8FP ( that is, I have no interest in following any other spiritual path ) but not when it comes to schools/traditions...

The Dharma is the Dharma... and All roads (Buddhist traditions) eventually lead to Rome/Enlightenment/wherever

    Pretty much.
I find formal meditation is just mindfulness with less movement. At the moment my eyes are closed lightly, which changes the emphasis. Stillness can induce a calm trance like state and I normally finish the formal sit before this happens.

I find that Pureland has been influenced by Christianity, Tibetan Buddhism by Shamanism, Zen by Taoism and Confucianism, Theravada by Jainism and so on.

However focus/right concentration on core teachings/practices/symbology etc is more beneficial than New Age platitudes and mushy thinking, in my experience. :)

    Yes true... :)

  • Purist? No. I tried doing prostrations and quickly realized it wasn't for me (Korean Zen) and I refuse to wear knee pads to practice.
