Uposatha for lay person

There's a lot of snow and I cant visit the monastry because of the area. I wanted to "practice" or pre-take the some of the precennts das determined by the luner calender.

This is a personal decision because I feel practie and mind go hand in hand. Can you guys tell me how the full, noon moon, and quaters relate to taking the precepts and observane days? Is there a special Is there a special significance comepared to other days during the waninand waxing phases?

This was in the intro chapter I was reading but I cant find an explanation in the suttas.

I don't know that they do. I've never heard so. I took precepts with my teacher first (I know you cannot do it in person yet, that is ok!) but I take them daily on my own. A lot of rituals take on flavors of their cultures, so they may not be in the suttas as a result. In the end, there really is nothing special about when you do it, as long as your sincerity and intention is in place.

Ahh. Yeah. I dont want to rush the physical taking of the precepts. I did tht in my former religion and warry about doing it again. I mean, we practice the precepts daily (as we try to at least).

Extra lay vows are traditionally taken on holy days because they're supposed to have greater potency and generate more merit.

For me though, I think they are good to take any time you want a bit of an ethical training day, much in the same way devout Jews avoid doing lots of activities on the Sabbath. I find it really helps me notice and put a brake on everyday habits and activities that can sort of snowball and take control.

true @person I was also thinking how do the taking of the vows correlate to the lunar days. I was reading that the vows are taking on full moon and neww moon. I think quarter as well.

I have no idea, honestly I don't think it really matters if you synch them up with the lunar cycle, I suspect that has more to do with superstition than anything.

There is special importance to the pornima in Buddhism. When moon starts to grow from amavashya towards full it is called as shukla paksha which is supposed to considered as auspicious than krishna paksha.

This is also the concept of indian astrology. The gems of good/ deva planet are first time need to wear in shukla paksha and devil planet in krishna paksha.
But those having devil planet functional benefic also finds amavashya as beneficial.

Just find about shukla paksha on net. You will get detail information about it. You can also use indian calender apps to find out shukla paksha in your location.

When moon starts to grwo from half to complete. It's even more better.
