My sister who is no Christian, recently attended Carol singing at Westminster Abbey and thorougly enjoyed joining in. I rather like 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing'. May put the radio on and tune in to the season of 'Christian Capitalism'. So far radio silence is working well ...
Looking for some inspiration to start playing my bass guitar again, came across this with Chris Squire. OK till around 2:00 when he starts playing it like a lead guitar...wow!
growing up as a kid in the late sixties and as a teen I fell in love with quitar based rock and roll.
I grew up on Long Island and we like the loud noisy stuff.
I can remember hanging with a crowd that only listened to hard rock.
I can remember them saying bands a acts like Dylan The Beatles and The Dead sucked. Lol.
Then in I started dating this girl in High School who was a real Dead Head. So was her older brother and his friends.
It was a whole crowd.
We went and saw The Dead at Englishtown NJ.
Tripped out, had a blast.
The New Riders of the Purple Sage opened.
Jerry joined them for a few songs on pedal steel.
Anyway The Dead were awesome. Chills down your spine good.
I realized my hard rock friends were wrong.
I immediately saved up some money to buy some albums from other bands that they said had sucked.
Like Dylan and The Beatles.
I got Blood on the Tracks, The Whitle Album, Abbey Road, and Blonde on Blonde.
When I heard people saying that the Sex Pistols sucked I went out and bought Never Mind the Bullocks.
When the whole 80s sound came out of England with those cuts and fashion and sound I got into it much to the consternation of some old friends from the neighborhood.
Pyscedelic Furs, The Cure, Squeeze, and Spandau Ballet were my favs.
The Ghost in You, Heartbreak Beat, Pictures of You, And True, are still some of my favorite songs.
When the herd says it sucks, check it out.
Thats what makes me happy about music.
The fairly recent popularity of Sixto Rodriquez and Nick Drake makes me happy.
Luncinda Williams cover of Nick Drakes Which Will makes me happy.
Bob Dylans mournful catterwhalling in Your a Big Girl Now makes me happy.
My memories of a smiling Jerry Garcia with all that beard and hair makes me happy.
Old Beatles tunes like Anna, and Mr Moonlight makes me happy.
As for Bananarama, Im gonna check that flamenco number out.
I think Madonna did a flamenco thing on one of her songs.
I love Take a Bow.
My favorite Bananarama video was Cruel Summer.
Watching those English hotties frolick in downtown manhatten was fun.

I learned about The Stiff Little Fingers by way of that movie High Fidelity.
Got clued in about the Beta Band by High Fidelity too.
