Sorry to be late, dearest Simon. But I wanted to wish you peace and joy and the disappearance of that nagging Black Dog. He'll be gone soon, I hope, and the cessation of suffering will arise again. You're in my thoughts and prayers always, dear friend. Thank you for everything you've taught me so far and I look forward to many more years of your wise counsel and our continued friendship. You're very dear to me and I'm sending you tons of love and big, gentle hugs for your birthday and everyday.
Thanks so much for the good wishes. It is my misfortune that the USA celebrates on the same day (although I understand that 2 July was the actual date that was originally chosen).
P.S. Despite the fearful weather we are having (the floods in Hull are our version of Katrina), tomorrow promises to be fine so I am off to Glastonbury to celebrate 64 years.
For anyone who doesn't know it, Glastonbury is Avalon and it is where King Arthur is buried. Last time I was there I came across some bhikkus completing a sand mandala: perfect really - Buddhist ritual in a pagan town, just my cup of mead.
If the weather is good, I'll try to take some photos of the Chalice Well and the place where Joseph of Arimathea landed with the Grail.
And for those who think that's all myth, I'll just say that all history becomes myth in time so why not accept the more wonderful myths as history?

Thank you Simon. I don't post in any discussion here anymore but I do check in from time to time. I did send you a PM but never got a response. I cried for hours.

Let him off cleaning his room? Why, I have already let him off going up the chimney to clean it and shortened his day at the blacking factory to a mere 13 hours! What more could he want on his birthday?

Oh sir you are truly too kind...
perchance we might permit him a candle as a safeguard 'gainst the cold...
should it become severely inclement, we might even let him light it.....
...Pleasures of the flesh...."?
He's quite advanced for his age, you know.....:rolleyesc:om:
I was referring to Oliver Twist, chapter 7:
'It's not Madness, ma'am,' replied Mr. Bumble, after a few
moments of deep meditation. 'It's Meat.'
'What?' exclaimed Mrs. Sowerberry.
'Meat, ma'am, meat,' replied Bumble, with stern emphasis.
'You've over-fed him, ma'am. You've raised a artificial soul and
spirit in him, ma'am unbecoming a person of his condition: as the
board, Mrs. Sowerberry, who are practical philosophers, will tell
you. What have paupers to do with soul or spirit? It's quite
enough that we let 'em have live bodies. If you had kept the boy
on gruel, ma'am, this would never have happened.'
'Dear, dear!' ejaculated Mrs. Sowerberry, piously raising her
eyes to the kitchen ceiling: 'this comes of being liberal!'

Too true, and sadly he had medical problems which kept him away from us before.
I hope everything is ok with you now, and that your absence is not fuelled by sadness...
Happy Birthday, Digger, from your friends....
