The 'news anchor responds to bullying' post got me thinking about another article I've read recently, but thought it might be a little too OT to post within the same thread. This one has a bit of a more positive feel.
Lady Gaga recently lashed out against "fat" remarks. The singer apparently has gained some 25 pounds or so recently, causing a media slew of insults and criticisms, but rather than crumble silently or suing the publication, she took the high road by exposing the media as the irresponsible fat shaming machine that it is. Her response involved a public admission of her struggles with eating disorders and involved her posting images of herself in her bra and underwear, something that can be very painful for someone struggling with body dysmorphic disorder.
"Gaga has always claimed to be all about her fans, and by involving them in this, she makes a very important point: She's just like them. Some other celebrity might sue a publication for calling her fat; Gaga's fighting back by taking the high road, by showing the world that it's not okay to critique her body — not because she's a pop star, but because she is a human being, with feelings and a history of eating disorders and we can, and should, do better. By posting these homemade, raw, here-I-am-with-all-my-flaws (not that we see any) images, she shows that her struggle is the same struggle millions of other men and women have everyday: Learning to love yourself just the way you are, finding and believing you are beautiful when the media is hellbent on making you think you're fat and ugly (and that fat is the same as ugly)."

the Jezebel article. She even took it a step further, creating a safe space within her website, littlemonsters.com, where she encouraged fans to post images of their self perceived flaws.
“Be brave and celebrate with us your ‘perceived flaws’ as society tells us. May we make our flaws famous, and thus redefine the heinous.”

Leaving feelings about her music or flamboyancy aside, I find this incredibly inspiring. Gaga has at least been one celebrity who consistently supports her fans, leading the way for the freaks and the 'little monsters' as she calls them. First with her unrelenting support of the gay community, and now with her body image campaign, I am not going to lie when I say that I believe the world could use a few more celebrities like her out there.
Looking at the images, you might notice that she is no way shape or form 'fat', lol, not even 'chubby'! But, if you look up some older pictures, it's impossible to deny that she has gained weight. I think she looks fantastic and even as someone on the sidelines that will never ever meet or know her, I am so happy for her for turning this negativity into something positive. Those comments could have so easily set an anorexic/bulimic into a downward spiral, but she stood up instead, thus becoming a positive role model for countless youth.

Being a 'size acceptance' advocate (not a specifically "fat" acceptance advocate) I believe making health and/or character assumptions about ANY size person is wrong. A thin person's health is no more anyone else's business than a fat person's health. Still a judgement based on appearances only, and therefore unfair and uninformed.
She had me with the blood splatter from her VMA performance several years back:
Not nearly as inspirational as yours, lol, but I still liked it.
Yes, even old-timers like me know Lady G!
Argh, why do I even know that?
Listen to this wther you like her or not she has an amazing voice
