    Who's koan?
    Who are koans for?
  • What is needed for a dharma teaching?
Ok I will answer my own question. What is needed is a teacher, a student, a time, a place, and a message.

It is actually not that easy. The tendency of the mind is to find an answer but the koan should dissuade and intrigue/exhaust the mind, until it arrives not at mindfulness but rather the space in which even paradox has no residing. A task that can not be 'accomplished'. Must be time for a break. :rocker:

  • I've also been using "What is the origin of this suffering?" a bit lately. Not really a koan, since it often has a practical answer, but until a practical answer shows up it works as a koan.
