What if he had been a crazy holy man? It is hard enough being sane . . . let alone having to deal with half forgotten teachings from antiquity . . .
What happens if I am just unsuited to all this being kind, being wise etc?
Can't I just be normal?

I think we can infer from that, that being sane ('normal') is actually abnormal, and our normal state is one of abnormality.
It's like one of those paradoxes eh?

What I said was what I felt in response to the OP rather than a critique of the purpose of Buddhism.
