We weirdos (OK talking to myself again) are outsiders. Weird comes from wyrd, an old word meaning wise (phew glad to be praiseful again). A healthy sense of self, a healthy ego is essential. After all if too fearful, discombobulated and generally 'bewitched, bothered and bewildered' by others, how we gonna find and travel the Middle Way. Remember how the Buddha, after years of strange antics, had a reasonable meal. Sat quietly and hey presto - acceptance, enlightenment, Dharma etc.

    Hardly 'Hey Presto'.
    It took 6 years of practice and '40 days and nights' of sitting.....

    (Without talking, I would add. ;)

    @Lobster

    The ego prevents you from being unduly swayed by others because it creates a fence around you that keeps everyone else out.

    Selflessness prevents you from being unduly swayed by others because it leaves no you to be swayed.

    You still running for that Buddha bus?
