If you had to give the Buddha a modern day profession what would he be ?
Kia Ora,
I've heard Buddhism described as 'inner science' & 'science of the mind' ...How in modern secular terms would you describe the Buddha's profession ? ie what the Buddha was all about?

Scientist - going on the description you've been given.
Personally though, I like "Professional non-bullshit artist"
Philosopher-Psychologist? Who knows. If it really aligned with modern professions then we'd have people already teaching what the Buddha teaches (aside from monks and nuns).
Maybe we do and we just don't know it yet.
Inmate or psych patient.
Seriously.
I mean, the Buddha came across as very different. They prosecute for that today.
Renunciate.
My first option was psychotherapist. On second thought, a self-effacing renunciate, as @how suggested above.
And he would have never appeared on the media. We'd probably never learn of his existence.
