fabrications are subject to decay. Bring

about completion by being heedful." Those

were the Tathagata's last words.

    No one actually knows... :) he wasn't alive when his words were written down. It was much after his death that people interpreted what was actually said.

    Bearing in mind the circumstances in which they were said, what comes across to me is the sense of the Buddha reassuring his followers during a very difficult time.
