What is your understanding of Buddha's last words?
Then the Blessed One addressed the monks,
"Now, then, monks, I exhort you: All
fabrications are subject to decay. Bring
about completion by being heedful." Those

Time is short; get to work.
Nothing lasts. Strive to understand and free yourself.
All compounded things are impermanent, here are forests, here are roots of trees, strive monks! Don't be heedless, lest you regret it later.
The Buddha died?!??
Nobody tells me nothing.

Bearing in mind the circumstances in which they were said, what comes across to me is the sense of the Buddha reassuring his followers during a very difficult time.
