I've long resonated with the Stoics, finding lots of commonality with Buddhism. Over the past several years I've been hearing more and more condemnation of stoicism and was confused by the criticism. In as much as I listened and understood the criticism it felt like a misunderstanding of stoicism. I came across this video essay and perhaps this helps explain a lot of it. It talks about how stoicism has been adopted by the manosphere and changed in ways that warp the original intent. It reminds me something of how zen came into the mainstream, became commodified and twisted into something it wasn't. Anyway, its on the long side but I think good and important to understand for anyone who appreciates stoicism.
