Inspired by the movies thread, I thought it might be fun to make a thread where people can post their top 5 whatever. Movies, books, famous people, natural wonders, buildings, animals, etc.

Top 5 movies:
The Matrix
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The Princess Bride
Pulp Fiction
The Martian

Nice idea. I think some of these things are going to be open to discussion by everyone — pretty much everyone will have a Top 5 movies — but some are going to be too obscure. My revised Top 5 movies…

    The Shawshank Redemption
    Unforgiven
    Spirited Away
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
    The Matrix

    Top 5 Dutch football players…

    Johan Cruijff
    Ruud Gullit
    Marco van Basten
    Dennis Bergkamp
    Robin van Persie

  • Top 5 Video Games as determined by enjoyment and amount of time sunk:

    Sacred 2
    Titan Quest
    Icewind Dale 2
    Pillars of Eternity
    Dungeon Lords

Dungeon Lords is an example of a very flawed game but I just played it so much and enjoyed even though there are better games like: the Witcher 1, Morrowind, and Skyrim which are all honorable mentions along with Grim Dawn. Baldur's Gate 2 might also be in place of Pillars of Eternity, but I just liked the vision of PoE and it's more fresh in my mind

    My top 5 quotes

"A party of order or stability, and a party of progress or reform, are both necessary elements of a healthy state of political life.' John Stuart Mill

"He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that. His reasons may be good, and no one may have been able to refute them. But if he is equally unable to refute the reasons on the opposite side, if he does not so much as know what they are, he has no ground for preferring either opinion... Nor is it enough that he should hear the opinions of adversaries from his own teachers, presented as they state them, and accompanied by what they offer as refutations. He must be able to hear them from persons who actually believe them...he must know them in their most plausible and persuasive form.” John Stuart Mill

"Where would I find enough leather to cover the entire earth? But with the leather soles of my sandals, it is as if the whole world has been covered. Likewise, I am unable to restrain external phenomena, but I shall restrain my own mind. What need is there to restrain anything else?" Shantideva

"Everything is a balance, and the problem is, is that because conditions change you have to be continually rebalancing." ~Dan Carlin

"There's a difference between knowing the path, and walking the path" Morpheus, The Matrix

  • Top 5 qualities (no particular order)
    Compassion
    Empathy
    Mercy
    Love
    Gratitude (Appreciation)
    Yes, there are others.
Yes they could be interchangeable with any of the above.
But they make a good starting point, a good base, a good compass.
The "doubling" of the last one was because they are different words for the same quality, just from a slightly different view.

    Peace to all
