For my Canadian and US brothers and sisters ... How are you coping with the polar vortex ?
We are also feeling it here in Aotearoa (NZ)

As seen on my phone...
High today of -3F (-19C), 7F (14C) degrees warmer than yesterday!!!
Its not the first time we've had this sort of stretch up in the northern regions of the US. I think what is different is how far south and large of an area its hitting. We're used to it, if not quite this extreme, and are prepared. Its all the noobs living down south.
Its a favorite hobby of us northerners to watch in good natured amusement at the problems a little dusting of snow and cold gives to those not used to it. ๐๐๐
-25F this morning. I put my dog's coat on for our hike today and yesterday. He doesn't need it until it gets cold.
-55F windchill yesterday morning, so today's calm -38F air temp was an improvement ๐ The cold can be difficult but it's normal for a few days a year every winter for us. While I can't say I love it - it brings a lot of risk and concern - it is good for the forest. So I remind myself of that. Our homes are made to withstand it (unlike some in the southern US who really struggle to manage the rare cold they see) and we mostly have adequate clothing to deal with it. Just another winter, even though it's not been this cold for 6 years here.
I was feeling a bit grateful this morning as my truck started up just fine in the -16 temp. Not like the old days when it was pretty questionable whether cars would start in the cold.
I had problems the last time it was -30. I had a neighbor with a running vehicle giving jumps. But it was so cold that as I pushed in the clutch a few times it was so brittle it broke.
We have the Atlantic warm current to thank here in Europe that temperatures arenโt much below freezing, itโs just -1 Celsius / feels like -6 with the wind, while weโre about as northerly as Canada on the map.
The coldest temperature I been in was -10C wind-chill. This however was at one of our ski fields in lower North Island....
When I was practicing tummo, -7C was indoor summer in the Purelands of Greenland.

Soon it is the year of the Fire-Horse and I can stop killing House Slytherin muggles in honour of St Patrick of Greenland (aka the Emerald Isle)...
Think I may have taken a wrong turning again...
