A Good Career or Job for a Buddhist?
Comments
Righttt!
Any particular practice?
What practice would you suggest?
Jhana usually refers to the altered state of consciousness achieved with advance concentration practice (breath meditation or staring at a dot on the wall, whatever).
There are also the Vipassana Jhanas, those are abviously a result of a vipassana practice
Simple!
But that goes back to Zen Mind?
Supernatural powers....
YEAAAAA...Right!:)
I find teaching to be rewarding because it provides me with the opportunity to 'give back'. It also helps me appreciate all those who have helped me along the way.
Where I find the most value in my music is when I give it away - performing music for the sake of the music. I feel that I am in service to the music in the sense that it comes from somewhere else and my part is to hold the instrument and perform the physical aspect of plucking the strings or pressing the piano keys.
I believe that music is a gift but it is not our gift to have but our gift to give.
do you have (perhaps) aversion to alcohol?
No problem!

My point is that making the switch from an "unwholesome" career to one that jives better with Buddhism has been very helpful in my path. If you have any doubts about what you do, just make a career change. It will not be the end of the world. You might just find that it makes you a better person. And being a better person has nothing to do with your income.
Best of luck,
Mr. Fell
