And you believe your version of buddhism is more pure, no?
    Well, it is the oldest.

    :)

The first Mahayana texts were written at the same time as the texts you use in the Theravada. There are plenty of texts in the Mahayana that are sermons he gave while alive. So, your assumption is not based on fact.
  • That's incorrect, Mahayana was a later development.

The Theravada Pali Canon was transmitted orally after the death of the Buddha and finally written down in the 1st century BCE.

Mahayana was a later development from 5th century CE onwards.

  • " 20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." - (Luke 17:20-21)

This is a beautiful statement. What is Jesus pointing to? Why did he say that the kingdom of God was within? This is what got him killed in the first place haha.
  • mahayana may be a later development, but some sanskrit scriptures are supposed to date from the time of the buddha. at least according to mahayana sources.

Oh shut up, all of you. Jeesh, how you love the sound of your own cleverness.
