Hi, I'm sorry if there is a FAQ somewhere on this topic that I haven't seen, but thanks to the newbuddhist members, I have received a number of "badges" and points in the short time I have belonged to this site. I am wondering though, what are these awards for? Are they points towards enlightenment? Can you trade them in for valuable prizes, either in this life or a future one? Any insight would be welcomed.

They are for fun and some competition towards getting along with each other. NO PRIZES, sorry, except the satisfaction of getting along and making friends.
Actually, the thresholds are a secret. But if you reach the exact threshold you achieve nibbana. If you overshoot, you end up in the hell realm where Lobster is constantly hawking (selling) cushions. If you undershoot, you eventually become a Mormon.
....But now that you know this, I will have to kill you.....

I think you get a badge when you've posted pictures of 50,000 different cushions (unfortunately I think only one member has what it takes).
