As we know, guess, experience … not everything is what it seems.
For example we may gain wisdom/compassion from a dead fly or remain ignorant of our transitioning being. There are many examples amongst us of useless and useful teachings and teachers.
We have to develop discernment, otherwise we settle for celebrity gurus/new age flim flam/incompetent 'spiritual' influencers and incomplete 'teachers'.
So what is useful? For me it is the tried and tested.

Had someone wanting to join, proclaiming themselves to have been recognised as "The Buddha Maitri."
Sorry, but anyone who wants to join a forum and has a dubious Fb page... Hmmm. Not convinced.
The more you crow loudly about how great you are....
Nah.
Everybody's Facebook page is dubious. Even those not on it.
Would the Buddha be on Facebook or still wandering through forums, forms and other walks …
Meanwhile we program the Buddha in our image or imagination for the unconvincing …
What!!! HAHA! Well, wishing him / her the best
Yes on the Dutch language buddhist forums which I sometimes frequent there was someone like that, who picked the username “Buddha” and was continually complaining about how he wasn’t accepted in the Sangha and that people didn’t respect him properly. Hilarious.
I've seen a couple scifi series recently (I won't say because its a bit spoilery) that had a friendly AI directing humanity. It may be a realistic way we can scale up to a more cooperative society.
