For those who don't know, I pointed Bushi here from a martial arts forum that we were both on. Nice kid who joined the military in January. So, right now, he is having his Bday during the 'Hell Week' portion of his training. He might check in sometime around May...before they probably ship him to Iraq.

3 ounces gin (recommended: Plymouth Gin)
4 ounces tonic water (recommended: Schweppes)
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
Lime wedge for garnish
Place the ice cubes in a tall, narrow, chilled glass (the cubes should come near the top.) Add the gin, then the tonic water, then the lime juice, stirring well. Garnish with lime wedge, and serve immediately.
*Note: To make the ice cubes, simply fill an empty ice cube tray with tonic water, and let the cubes freeze. It takes just a few hours. Covered well, the cubes will remain fresh-tasting in the freezer for at least a few weeks.

Sooooo true, Fede! Martinis should NEVER be shaken. This is one of the few great truths of this world. Every properly trained barman or barmaid or mixologist will tell you the same.
And your recipe for the G&T sounds fabulous! A nice chair in the garden and a little sun would go very well with it, too.

How are your tomatoes doing, by the way??
The tomatoes are sprouting really well so it's now time to pot them on. If they fruit as well as they're growing I'm going to be overrun with toms!
Also, my sister gave birth a couple of hours ago so it's a double birthday celebration in the family!
This is particularly good news as she lost her last baby days before it was due so we're all really chuffed and relieved that all's gone well so far.
