My experience with prayer, I say short ones before meditation sessions, meals and going to bed and I've had periods in my practice where I'd spend 30-40 minutes daily saying set prayers more than meditation.
I think they take affect in the mind, slowly adjusting motivation and outlook. Something like how doing anything else on the regular might. The Dalai Lama says something regarding prayer about how its important to pay attention to the words and take them in otherwise you might as well just play a tape recorder.
For example, my meditation prayer that I recite 3 times is "Until enlightenment I take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. Through the merits of this practice may I free my mind from greed, hatred and ignorance so I may be of benefit to beings". I got into Buddhism just to sort my own stuff out, and I still search for peace and insight for personal reasons. But when I think about any spiritual qualities I may possess its almost always in relation to how it can be of benefit to those I come into contact with in my life.

My beard and moustache have gone almost completely gray. I have been shaving my head for about 15 years now, so I'm not sure how much brown would be there if I grew it out.

There are some white hairs in my moustache, I noticed this morning while I was trimming it. That didn’t used to be the case last year, when I last trimmed it. I’m slowly going white!

You have my wholehearted, unconditional, and unwavering support. I actually belong to a local organisation that counsels men who have been subject to abuse. I never assume nor presume that men are exempt from such treatment.

My progress with white hairs is thankfully slow - I would hastily add I sport neither moustache nor beard - but people keep asking me if I dye my hair! The infernal cheek!
I have today accomplished 68 circuits around the sun; I shall embark on my 69th tomorrow... that's enough to turn any head, white!!

Which reveals the sobering reality that the dating pool for hetero women, also contains their most dangerous predator.
I would say that hetero women have their own predatory instincts, too. I've known a few.
Anyway, this convo has gone from impropriety, to rape, and I'm not down for that.

I have searched Chandrasekkhar's limit and it is fascinating what Physics is finding out from our world. What an age to live in! All this knowledge is so vast!
