Happy Birthday.
The last few days we had a snowshoe hare coming around to eat seed underneath the bird feeder. He would stop at my basement window at 11:00 in the morning, look in at me sitting at the computer, then move on down to the feeder - provided I sat very still. If I so much as twitched he would take off like a rocket. In 15 years of living here, this is the first time I have seen one close up.
Beautiful @Fosdick. Looks like a juvenile? Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I think so - very scruffy looking in molt, and possibly a little tamer than I'm used to seeing - hope he doesn't get into trouble because of it.
I was at a Dharma Talk today (Geshe-la) has started up his monthly visits/Dharma Talks ( this year's topic The 37 practices of the Bodhisattva) ...
Along with an assortment of people there, there was this young free-spirited French girl , she leaves the island tomorrow, gradually making her way back to France...Anyhow, in collaboration a young Kiwi guy whom she met 6 years ago when visiting NZ, she/they came up with this...
She said they would like to share Metta with others so she gave me a copy and asked me to spread the word .........this is what I'm doing Metta
@Shoshin, If you happen to see her again, tell her I have made it my phone screensaver...
Nice one @federica , I'm sure they will appreciate the gesture...I won't see her again as she's leaving tomorrow, but I'll mention it to her Kiwi friend if he comes to the Dharma talk next month
In keeping with the tumultuous celebrations customarily taking place on St Patrick's day, today is St. George's day, and the country is going wild with excitement.
Oh, BtW, as a double-whammy, it's also Shakespeare's Birthday! People are going crazy, and everyone's ecstatic!
Here is a typical picture of today's English mad moments of wild feasting and making merry....As you can see, the guys can barely contain themselves, as they prepare to buy another round....!! Woo-hoo! Pass the peanuts!!
Ha ha! I assumed you were being sarcastic!
I remember being in a London Pub many years ago and seeing the red and white flags up everywhere. I asked what the occasion was and someone said it was St George's Day.
No-one seemed to care......
Thanks @Shoshin - you've made my day....
St George killed endangered species? What sort of Norbert Saint is that?
You're welcome @Bunks ...
I always leave my kitchen window open and earlier on this evening, I went into the kitchen and came across an insect party in full swing...
There were Preying mantises just chilling
a Crane fly just hanging,
a Moth tripping the light fantastic
But I must admit, the life of the party was this head banger (I think it might belong to the Crane fly family) it was really going for it...
So, even though it was YOUR kitchen, you were gatecrashing....? Bad form, @Shoshin, bad form! at least BAB....!
Between your insect porn post and insect party post....maybe being reincarnated as an insect isnt such a bad prospect after all....:D
The Alps viewed from the airplane that took me -grudgingly and unwillingly- back to Switzerland
Wow, snow-covered - good to see! Haven't seen snow on the alps for a long time! Thinner though, than I remember it to have been....
Well it's bloody cold, the temperature has dropped , the forecast was for the temperatures to drop between 5 & 10 degrees ..This morning I when I looked at the temperature gauge it was 15C ( however on my phone which shows Auckland temperature it was only 12C ... bloody cold and it's gonna get colder, with a cool south westerly wind blowing...
And to think that last Tuesday I was swimming and soaking up the vitamin D...I guess that may be my last swim of the season ...mind you, it might well be warmer tomorrow and if so I'll head to the beach...
Oh well at least the sun's out and there's clear blue sky...
Walking back from a friend's place* as the sun was setting...there was a chill in the air 13C .(The photos don't do the experience justice) ...
Autumn isn't it just wonderful...
Jetlag is killing me...
I feel sooooo tired and as if living in two different realities...
My head is completely off.
Sorry if I don't make sense these days...
We used dream of living in two different realities ...
Vegetables any body ?
Sheer luxury! We could only dream of having a reality....
Happy International Star Wars Day to all Star Wars Fans. May the 4th be with you.
I was 6 years old when I attended the "Star Wars" premiere back in 1977, @Hozan, and it was love at first sight.
By my calculations, you probably were not even born
All my school girlfriends were arguing whether Luke was more handsome than Han Solo...
To me the question was settled: I was smitten with Darth Vader
Love the serious conversation, DD.
Luke had incredible appeal for the bubble-gummers.
Well, @silver, to each their own...
But my first impression with Darth Vader did define a lifelong preference for big men in black...
I was born in September of 1977 so too young to see it in 1977 but by 1983 and The Return of The Jedi I had seen all three! I was smitten by Princess Leia ( my first crush !). Love Star Wars to this day!
Recently in Chicago Ireland beat those guys in black for the first time!
My Pumas never beat the big men in black, but -I'm gulping and sweating here- it seems they did leave Ireland out of the semis in the World Rugby Cup in 2015...
They certainly did. The Pumas are awesome!!
Viva Los Pumas!
Bloody fake news
I do love my kids. I really do.
But, shit I don't like them sometimes.
Good. Welcome to the convoluted, confusing and at times just plain crap world of parenting.
Thanks @federica - always nice to remember I am not alone. Many have ridden this roller coaster before me
The other day whilst out for a walk I saw the moon....
"Don't mistake the finger pointing to the moon for the moon"
???❌
Don't mistake Bruce or Sheila for a Zenith
just because they can kick your mooning ...
I love Bruce Lee.
Especially the wise man behind the martial arts persona... ❤??
Hey, @lobster: you lol my Bruce Lees once more and I throw you alive and kicking into the sizzling wok...
Achtung!!
???
Tee Hee! Wise?
Do not speak in platitudes or I will point at your moon and kick your Zen.
Yep, doesn't work for me.
Here are some more:
??
I'll get my kicks out of seeing you even try to point at my moon and kick my zen, my crustacean...
You're likely to learn first-hand what dying young means☺
My point exactly??☺
The point I am making before I get fast cooked ...
... expertise in one area does not make one an expert fighter in all corners of knowledge. I am told 'The Tao of Jeet Kune Do' is worth reading. Only ever dipped into it. ?
If Bruce Lee had continued with his first martial art, Tai Chi, we might have the beginnings of applied insight. ??
For now lobster cooking 'wisdom':
etc etc ❤️
Life would be so much simpler if we were all so simple to figure out, @lobster.
Bruce Lee was a complex character and I guess therein lies the fascination and the legend.
He had a strong, dark personality and grew up among gangs where you had to impose yourself by force if you wanted to survive.
Ip Man, his teacher, taught him to tap into the lighter hues of his soul.
And so he was till the end: a man constantly swerving from one side to the opposite of the spectrum.
Like we all.
Forever wrestling with our yin and our yang.
Bruce Lee was not a fake.
He did not pretend to be wise and perfect.
He had a deep core of wisdom but did not fear to show his most human side when he felt like it.
