Hello friends, I recently approved a couple dozen new members that applied to join the site over the last 3 months. Please say hello!
And to the old-timers, keep an eye out in case I let through any AI-based bots. Unfortunately, it's much easier for them to slip through these days since they can generate "reasons" to join based on the site. Feel free to use the 'report' button and I'll quietly take a closer look.
Let's be optimistic that everyone is a real human! 😁

Wonderful, thank you Linc! Looking forward to fielding some real Buddhist questions.
Welcome to all the new members! Jump right in! 🙂
Thank you! I've been very much looking forward to be here. So much, that I now deleted enlargement pill and African prince-related jokes from my program.
I’m not a bot, although sometimes I feel like one. I joined because I was upset that my dharma friends were making incense offerings on their forearms to the Buddha. I’ve since come to terms with this ceremony and realize that some people need it to deepen their practice, others deepen their practice climbing mountains. Each to their own, the way isn’t static.
That's a new one.
Hi all,
I'm from Sydney Australia and am awaiting my initiation into Vajrayana. I've taken my refuge and boddhisattva vows and after years of dancing around the dhamma, I got serious about it about 4.5 years ago. I joined a local Sangha and have done three Empowerments so far.
I was born and raised Catholic and still have a lot of love for the faith (not necessarily the people). Even though for me, the jury is still out about the divinity of Jesus, his teachings themselves are what I try to live by. In fact, I am a "bad Christian" in the fact that I only think his actual words are what Christians should live by. The rest of the new testament was largely written by people who THINK they have interpreted his words correctly. I was not popular with the nuns at my school LOL
I'm a mum of four with a rescue puppy and work in Infrastructure. So yeah, that's me.
Welcome. If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend checking out Without Buddha I Could Not Be a Christian. You might appreciate it.
I remember Sydney quite well from my stepbrother’s wedding in 2003, the only time I have visited. I climbed on the Bay Harbour Bridge, typical tourist thing to do! Do they still have the David Jones? All the big department stores (bar one) went bust here in the Netherlands. Sydney’s a very nice place.
Wishing you the best of luck with Vajrayana. Another book you might like is Living Buddha, Living Christ from Thich Nhat Hanh, I recall reading it about ten years ago and thought it was good.

Yes DJ's is still going strong
That book is one of my favourites. Along with Lama Surya Das' series. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is also an author I read prolifically on Buddhism.
Thank you Jason I'll definitely check it out
I’ve also read a lot, first in Buddhism and later in various spiritual traditions. I’d quite like to read Lama Surya Das’ books, I was just having a look at his bibliography on Wikipedia and some of the titles appeal to me. Thanks for the tip!
I don't recommend books unless they are quite thick, covered with a thin cushion or folded towel, blanket and sat on.
As soon as I have cleared my mind, I will probably recommend myself to finish one I started...

Welcome, new members!
Wot U still here or just still?
One of the ways we progress or find what we need is by asking what we think are stupid questions. There are none. Asking leads to potential insight, or the ways to further study/contemplation.
I regularly ask stupid questions for example:
Q: How long does it take to become enlightened?
A: Decades if you are lucky, a few years if you are unlucky.
Q: Who is the most enlightened Buddha (Awakened One)
A: Without question we are all awake, even whilst zzz
Q: Which religion is better than Buddhism?
A: All of them if practiced. None if not.
Q: Was the Shakyamuni Buddha human?
A: Sometimes.
Hope that helps
