No I watched and implemented the solution from a YT video but it did not work. Thanks for reminding me, I'll take the coconut to my aunt's today, she hopefully has more tools!
I used to just thrown the coconut down hard on a concrete surface...this cracked the shell and made it easier to open...
Coconut water is a blessing
@Shoshin 1 : Youtube 0. We have an open coconut! It is good!
But as @Kotishka says, the coconut water is better!
It’s been a long time since I had my hands on a whole coconut. I remember my father buying one when I was, oh, about ten years old, but I don’t think I have seen one in the shops since then.
According to your first post, I thought you had already drank the coconut water, hence why I recommend throwing it hard on a concrete surface to crack it open...
The coconut water is easy to access, just punch or drill two holes in the top, big enough to put a straw into...
No worries, I licked the concrete dry! That's how I know the coconut-water is so good!
Joke. I did drink it a few days ago.
I wonder if hedgehogs eat coconuts...
It was hot today so I decided to have a skinny dip...(the walk back up)
On my way down to the beach I met an American family (Mum and two sons from NY) who were just over for the day on a mini bus tour of the island...One of the son's spotted a big purple flower and asked the other two if they knew what it was, they didn't so I told them it was an agapanthus...We got talking as we walked down the track to the next look out point...The mother said she would love to come and live on the island for a while, she called it paradise, and mentioned how nice the views were...
On the way up I spotted a Bumble bee collecting pollen and feasting on the agapanthus's nectar (Mother Nature's little helper)
I present to you… the Welsh Tidy Mouse! Unfortunately my own uninvited houseguest has shown no such notions. But perhaps they are not all bad.

Woke up at 1 am. Did not sit zazen. Too intrigued with wordly affairs.
On my jolk along the beach this morning, there were quite a few dogs who had brought their human companions (hcs) out for a walk...
Two big burly dogs (Brothers or Sisters or a mix of both-not sure of their breed, boxer-like face, short haired and patchy dark and light chocolate brown in colour ) were bounding in and out of the water, I see them on the beach most mornings...
A couple of non locals walking in the opposite direction said to the dogs hc, "Hope you don't let the dogs crap in the ocean...If they do you need to clean it up..." ( one of the dogs must have looked like it was)..and the response from the hc, was "Piss off back to Auckland" ...
I must admit I was waiting for him to add "Jaffa" to the end of it, (it's what kiwis from other parts of the country call people from Auckland city,...which means Just Another F... wit From Auckland) and that would have been a classic response from an islander...
On my jolk this morning , I got bowled over by a big dog. Who was playing chase with a couple of other dogs... earlier I had seen it running around on the beach out of control, it's human companion was calling it but it didn't take any notice ..it was too caught up in the chase game....it came straight at me, chasing after the other dogs, I turned sideways and it hit the back of my knees and I went over like a skittle...clean strike 🙂
To compensate for this mishap, my mind planned for me to be surprised by a white face heron on my way down the track to the beach for a skinny dip...What a pleasant surprise....
The ocean temperature was like a lukewarm bath water, thanks climate change...
Well surprise surprise, on my way up the track from the beach today, (quite close to the beach end) Mr Heron was waiting for me....
Our paths have crossed two days in a row now....Is it trying to tell me something???
Have you watched the new Studio Ghibli film ‘The Boy and the Heron’?
No, is it on YouTube ?
No it only just reached cinema’s here in Europe. But it’s about this supernatural grey heron which serves as a guide to the realms of the dead…
Interesting...I'll keep an eye out for it...
Oh yeah baby! It is cinema day today!
What are you going to see? 🙂
@DagobahZen
Supposed to see ‘The Boy and the Heron’ but it was not possible I will have to reschedule.
@Kotishka I could have gone to see it in Amsterdam but it was only on late in the day, and I didn’t fancy the hour’s train ride each way. I will definitely buy it on iTunes when it is released there, I’ve heard it is usually within a few months of the cinema release.
There is a very old cinema here called Atlántida, from back in the 70s. It looks like a really old theatre, with the red linen everywhere.
Also, on a small note, while working at the geriatric wing of this place, I heard so many stories from patients regarding the cinema and how it was their "go out place" to be able to socialise and flirt a bit more freely.
Well I sold my foldable ebike today...It would have been too risky to be riding due to vertigo...
Yesterday morning I put an ad on the local community trade page and within an hour someone responded, they came to have a look and test ride....and this afternoon they came around with the cash to pick up the bike...
I bought it in January 2021 (in between lockdowns) and sold in January 2024...
I had only used it over the Summer months just for short distances, mainly into the village...It was as good as new....I sold it for just under half the price I payed for it, so the new owner has got a real bargain ....She didn't even want to haggle over the price, she just said "Wow, it's like new"....
I've been thinking about getting a smaller, lighter 16inch wheel ebike ...I tried my friend's one and it was easier to handle ...
707 euros for that! Bargain!
Yes that is quite cheap....
The one that I just sold cost me $2330NZ new...
Correction to the last post....I actually sold it for $1200 just over half its price new...
I gave away two bikes, one electric on freecycle using a trash nothing app. Was too busy to sell. Had great usage from both
Now I have time to meditate on becoming the best bike/lobster, maybe I will stick with walking ... or just check out the bikes available ...
Had a check, probably the best value is a mountain bike, bit icy at the moment and we have hills rather than mountains ...
It's been a hot one today, it must have peaked at 27/8C...I took a drive by Blackpool beach ( Huruhi Bay) to check out the protected bird species...
E bikes rock!
My Covid project was putting a 750-watt hub motor powered by a 35 amp controller and two inter-connected 48V batteries onto my step-thru e-bike. 26" x 4" Tanis armored tires, hydraulic brakes, front and back suspension, and a host of other modifications means that I pretty much use it as an electric motorcycle. It's been 4 years of fun so far and never fails to leave a stupid grin on my face.
This morning when I arrived home after my jolk, as I walked into the lounge I felt something crawling on my arm and brushed it away...It was this little fellow, a native cockroach,,
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Zzr9mmuIYeQ
It must have dropped down onto my arm as I walked through the front door..
This evening it was Buddhism on the beach, only two of us turned up...
It was a beautiful summer's evening..
Mother Nature paints a pretty picture....
I noticed you have hedgehogs!!!!!!!!!
That might be what you call them in your part of the world @Kotishka ....But here we call them cockroaches
haha I meant...you have another video with a hedgehog!!!
On this morning's jolk I was joined by royalty.... a couple of Monarch butterflies
I will never look at butter the same way again
I wouldn't like to come a cross a real crap this size...
Scorcher of a day today, so headed down for a skinny dip ...
Bumped into my friend Heron on the way down, Heron has a new job...a local tour guide...
Took me on a short walking tour...
The beach was crowded ...around 20 people...
Beautiful day, so went for a dip...
On the way back up the track, I stopped to rest in the shade (many moons ago I would race my selves to the top of the track without stopping...I would always win ) whilst resting, I spotted a group/squadron of Monarch butterflies practicing predator escape maneuvers, by swooping ducking and diving at each other, then just one was left doing maneuvers...Only managed to capture the solo performance...
Today is Bob Marley's birthday and Waitangi day (The signing of the treaty of Waitangi between Maori and the crown)...The new corrupt coalition government (the three um egos) received a cold welcome onto the Marae at Waitangi by Maori elders...
Many Maori tribes are attending the ceremony and voicing their distrust for the government who want to take away their rights...
It's a public holiday hence why the Auckland Amada has arrived in many of the bays around the island
I'm at the beach for skinny dip and the beach is full of boaties,(people who arrived on their boats from the mainland) the bay is full of boats....
I haven't spotted any locals yet...
On this morning's jolk, this angry seagull was getting a little to close for comfort...perhaps the nest was close by...
I've had them divebomb me before and would normally ignore them. but this morning this one was quite aggressive, it really meant business, coming very close to my head...
@Shoshin1
I watch birds a lot, have seen ravens dive-bombing and driving away foxes from their nesting territory. Magpies taunting cats by hopping close to them on a fence and flying off when the sitting cat is driven into failed instinctual action. Normally shy, nursing jay head diving a passing teenager.
Seagulls are very aggressive birds.
I can only recommend Maitrī/metta ... as a defence against even crazy elephants. Fortunately, we don't have many here in London, except those driving mammoth SUV's

A couple of days ago I spotted Heron on the property where I live, (there are two manmade ponds on the property where different birds species hang out) and this afternoon Heron had made its way to my place.....
I think I might have a storkerstalker
I had almost finished my morning's jolk, (on my way back from Owhanake bay ...around half a km left) ...There was Heron, standing there waiting for me....
Who is stalking( or should I say storking ) who I wonder
Sitting in the juror selection room in court waiting to see if my name is called, been here for just over three hours... To pass the time I'm exploring boredom, I'm finding this quite interesting....but I guess if I'm finding it interesting, then it can't really be boredom... ;)
For myself, boredom seems to be a teacher saying that I am not looking closely enough at what is in front of me.
Boring!
I can't drag and drop an image @Linc
ah well ...
Well today I was selected as one of the 12 jurors, we were sworn in this morning and the trial is now underway....
Karma comes to mind....
Kinda like a Karma law enforcement agent...
@Shoshin1 They are innocent! oops don't mind me
It seems my stepfather is entering his final days… the doctor was here this morning, she said he has just a few days left, they will bring in a morphine pump setup and a nurse to manage the pain.
