I've been thinking about community lately. What is it exactly, what are the pros and cons, who's included, who says, etc.?
I've been wrestling with this question for 20 years and wrote about it in 2020.
The word is unfortunately "loaded" — it means many things to many people. Whenever I've tried to create a tight definition, I've gotten vehement pushback from people that believe their model counts as community too, even though I disagree. The digital world has challenged us by creating so many novel ways of interacting but not giving us the words to capture the nuance.
More recently, I've written down five beliefs I have about community. They're not meant to say "your definition isn't real", but rather to draw a line in the sand about what I'm pursuing when I talk about it in the context of software.

A change to my morning routine. On Friday my The Complete Calvin and Hobbes collectors edition was delivered, three huge hardcover volumes of cartoons on high-quality art paper. So now with my coffee at 5.30 in the morning I am chortling away over hours of cartoons! It’s made for a very cheerful start to the day.
How is that read going?
My random share is.... hoohooo

Another earthing walk to work this afternoon ...admiring the beautiful flowering Pohutukawa tree. Colloquially known as the NZ Christmas tree because it flowers around Christmas time.
And this morning's jolk up the back of the property, ( I'm a glutton for punishment) I was entertained by a tiny native bell bird
A tiny bird with such a loud voice.

First skinny dip of the season.
Walking down the track I must have spooked a large heron, it gracefully took to the air as I approached.
The water was refreshing. I miscalculated how high the high tide was going to come in, just managed to lift my beach tent up before all the things got wet.

@person :
What is true is that you were born, you live, you question, you seek.
That is the start.
Every day is a fresh start
Congratulations!
The community groups I’m currently a part of (about 3 or 4) ….were started and have been held up by the favor economy concept…. Or some say the Benjamin Franklin theory/effect.

I’ll give specific examples later… I’m at work… gotta go
