I hear the word illiberalism used often to describe the sort of mood the world seems to be entering into. In the sense of being opposite of authoritarian sentiment; dialogue, pluralism, secularism, rationality, humanism. And yeah, I agree that it isn't a solely partisan problem, its across the board to some extent or another.

I also prefer to use the word extremism. The way I think of it as radical is something outside the norm and extremism is taking things too far often to a harmful, destructive way.

Spain, Greece and parts of Italy get pretty hot in the summer. Spain just had some long stretches above 40C this year.

Wow, @Fosdick, sleeping with 5 dogs on the bed… but I found the mattress on the floor to be very good for my back, it provides a solid kind of flatness which I like. And it reminds me a little of the Japanese habit of just a thin futon on the ground, which I have tried in the past but found a bit much of a good thing.

Made an interesting discovery on YouTube. I've been hearing about automated content channels, I clicked on a video that was completely AI generated, I then went to check out the channel itself. It puts out these 3 to 4 minute topics every half an hour or so constantly. Its only been in existence for about 3 months and already has over 2,000 videos. Someone must have a program to mass create and publish these things.

The reason Israel targets the high-rise buildings in Gaza is not for military gain but to demoralise Palestinians. By destroying homes and livelihoods in a single strike, whole families are displaced and communities are broken down. This is collective punishment, aimed at crushing the spirit of a people rather than achieving any real military objective.
