President Jimmy Carter, former President Ford, Henry Kissinger, a priest and a hippy were in a plane together. There was a storm, and the pilot rushes into the passenger cabin. He says, “we’ve been hit by a lightning bolt and the plane is going down. The co-pilot and crew are dead. Here are four parachutes, sort out among yourselves who gets them.” With that he bails out. Jimmy Carter speaks first. “As President the fate of the free world is on my shoulders. I’m sure you’ll agree I should survive”, and he dons a parachute and jumps. Ford speaks next, “well I never did anyone any harm, and I have a golf date next week,” and he bails out with a parachute. Then Kissinger says, “I am the smartest man in the world, I should live”, and he jumps out. The priest then says to the hippy “I have had a fulfilled life and am not afraid to meet my maker, go ahead my son”, to which the hippy replies, “but Father, there are two parachutes left, because the smartest man in the world just jumped with my rucksack.”

I tend to leave the recyclable bottles and cans alone for at least a week for those who augment their own income by collecting and returning such items. I'm also learning to spot and avoid bits of residential surveyor tape on the street to save me from uselessly fighting with that which is often screwed into the ground.
I find the most persistently littered locations are leading to and from local high & middle schools or any parking lots near any lunchtime food stores but even these spots are requiring an ever-reducing amount of the clean-up time than they did a couple of months ago.

In Vancouver where I used to live, dog walkers sometimes could be seen studiously stooping and dabbing at the ground with a doggy bag beside their dogs poop, so it looked like they were cleaning it up, but were really just ghosting it while not being left with the task of actually having to carry it away. Fortunately, here in Victoria, that trick has not yet caught on.
You know, the Canadian koan of endlessly apologizing for breathing and wanting to be liked by everyone.
Not much different, I suppose, from watching my Mom, kick her dogs poop under some nearby bush while muttering that it was all about as organic as it could get, as she walked on.

How many staff does it take to service a self-check?
Sometimes I wonder if the businesses really save money on that strategy or if they're just kidding themselves.
Every time...Every bloody time...I've just been to the supermarket and when there are not many staff on the checkouts or there are long queues I use the self checkout...However I have a feeling the machines there don't like me...
First it asks if I have a bag then tells me to put bag in the bagging area, so I do, and then it says scan your item...
So I scan a few items, then it tells me to removed bag from the bagging area, so I remove the bag with the scanned items in it, then it locks me out and a staff member has to assist, swiping cards and punching in codes, then it ready to go again...
So I put another bag in the bagging areas to finishing scanning my shopping... then "UNEXPECTED ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA PLEASE REMOVE" the only thing there is the empty bag waiting to be filled...It locks me out again...anyhow this went on a few times, and the staff member had to stand by the machine and swipe his card and punch in codes...Every bloody time....
WTF ( What The Fuc Wow Totally Frustrating )
