Empathy is an extended hand,
Empathy is sitting quietly with one who is suffering.
Empathy is the birth of compassion.
Empathy gently wipes the child's tears
Empathy leads us to tend the wounded fawn.
To pull the thorn from the lion's paw
And to feel for the dove fleeing the hungry hawk
And the hawk pursuing the frightened dove
But, be aware, with empathy must arise wisdom.
Peace to all
“No creative, intelligent person seeks power. No intelligent person is interested in dominating others. His first interest is to know himself. So the people with the highest quality of intelligence go towards mysticism, and the most mediocre go after power. That power can be worldly, political; it can be of money, it can be of holding spiritual domination over millions of people, but the basic urge is to dominate more and more people.
This urge arises because you don't know yourself, and you don't want to know that you don't know yourself. You are so afraid of becoming aware of the ignorance that prevails in the very center of your being. You escape from this darkness through these methods -- lust for money, lust for power, lust for respectability, honor. And a man who has darkness within himself can do anything destructive.”

Immersed in the Wall of Sleep
And for that reason, Immured in that Wall
Of Sleep
I cannot move out an inch
My will is weak
My thought is confined
To Nowhere
Mindless, Brainless
In Bondage to Fatigue
Someone Wrest Me
From this Silent Bondage
Of Suffocated Fret
Give me one Ray
Of Shining Will
To Enliven and Electrify
The Feeling of Life in Me
That I may Freely Accept
The Way of Tapas and
Make such a Deep
Habit of Life
So as to
"Finally"
Turn my Back on Sleep
And Be a Conqueror
For Life.

I'm reminded of a man in Cambodia who said of girls working in brothels, "It's the result of their past karma. There's nothing anyone can do."
Hello. This is not the original Buddha teachings of kamma. I read the original Buddha teaching is if you believe your situation is due to past lives, your belief leads to inaction, which is wrong. Here it is, here
"Having approached the brahmans & contemplatives who hold that... whatever a person experiences... is all caused by what was done in the past,' I said to them: 'Is it true that you hold that... whatever a person experiences... is all caused by what was done in the past?' Thus asked by me, they admitted, 'Yes.' Then I said to them, 'Then in that case, a person is a killer of living beings because of what was done in the past. A person is a thief... unchaste... a liar... a divisive speaker... an abusive speaker... an idle chatterer... covetous... malevolent... a holder of wrong views because of what was done in the past.' When one falls back on what was done in the past as being essential, monks, there is no desire, no effort [at the thought], 'This should be done. This shouldn't be done.' When one can't pin down as a truth or reality what should & shouldn't be done, one dwells bewildered & unprotected. One cannot righteously refer to oneself as a contemplative...
Maybe someone else has said this somewhere and I just unconsciously "borrowed" it. Whenever someone says they're killing time, I always think, "you don't kill time, time kills you."

I am not a follower of Thich Nhat Hann. However, a thread from Phoenix Rising and Thriving fluttered by and settled in my tree.
Within this thread contained on of Thich Nhat Hann's "gems". Essentially, it said that whith some may say "time is money", but in truth, Time is life; That sitting quietly can be profoundly healing....
I pondered his words and some of the comments. From that I felt the need to share my tiny bit of mud.
**Money is a physical thing
Time is ephemeral.
Time is beyond fiscal measure.
Time can not be given or taken.
We must live.
In living, time has meaning.
Time is the peacefulness
of the babbling brook,
the beautyt of the blooming flower,
the serenity of the setting Sun,
Time is not measured by the ticking of the clock,
but by the depth of the heart
**
Please, all, take the time to just be.
Peace to all

Karma is an issue of cause and effect, not of reward and punishment, carrot and stick, though some appear to interpret it in that way.If we look for cruelty in these realms, we need look no further than the Christian doctrine of original sin, whereby we are all cursed by the supposed transgression of Adam.
Jesus himself, of course, had little to say about the issue. Matthew 5:22 perhaps?
But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' will be subject to the Sanhedrin . But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be subject to the fire of hell.>
Original sin comes from the Old Testament. I, for one, think that being as the Old Testament is the OPPOSITE of the teachings of Jesus, it should be banished from the Christian Bible, along with the Gospel of Matthew.
I try to respect everyone regardless of their age.
To respect that everyone has some teachings to offer about what to do and what not to do, whether it's their intention to share them or not, when I am open enough to receive those teachings.
Pretty much what has already been said about it, above.
