I hike barefoot with my dog almost every day until too much of the trail is ice and snow. I live in Minnesota, so there are around 4 months of the year when I wear boots. Trail is mixed grassland and forest with creeks and some marshland. When the spring comes after I have been wearing boots for months my feet start to scream at me: "let me out!"
Only 4 months of boots in MN is pretty impressive. I remember what it was like having really calloused feet as a kid from going barefoot all summer.

Laughable offence
From Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth: “It is probably an exaggeration, but I am told that in the capital of one Nordic country you run the risk of being arrested for drunken behaviour if you smile at strangers in the street.”

Smiling in public
Mrs. Walker's workplace is pretty much a joke lately. The Supervisors have no clue what they are doing, and can't co-ordinate the different crews on site. So people have been in the lunch room waiting for other crews to get out of their way. Everyone was berated for laughing and giggling in the lunch room. She wanted me to make her a sign saying 'No Laughing or Giggling', so she could post it. I didn't think that was a good idea.

It's the land sharks we have to be careful of, they will take an arm or a leg if you go near them...
The land shark usually inhabits urban areas, where it preys mainly upon young women, although it has also been known to attack bespectacled marine biologists and crusty sea captains. This is a very clever fish that is capable of disguising its voice and ringing doorbells.
