A thread for any good news stories you may like to share.
It can be personal or something you’ve heard or found elsewhere.
Despite what the mainstream media feed us, the world can truly be a beautiful and joyous place.
This story made me smile

I realized this week that we have successfully navigated the Winter and are on track to Summer. Also, today the clocks have moved forward in Croatia - longer days. Great success!
A wonderful website: https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/
My good news is that in 3 months I will be getting married!!
This is a picture of us 2.5 years ago on a Birthday adventure to Paulet's Cove in Cape Breton, NS.
We do not give gifts on birthdays but take an adventure somewhere instead.
We visited Gampo Abby which was founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1983. Unfortunately we did not get to meet Pema Chödrön.
Good news. What a great thread/service/idea.

My son loves this YouTube channel @person. We recently bought the book Immune which was written by the narrator if I’m not mistaken. A good read
"It's great to be here.
Hey, it's great to be anywhere...!"
Keith Richards.
I second the motion.
Well just as I arrived back from my morning jolk I saw my landlord who told me his ex who also lives on the property has just tested positive for Covid, he and my immediate neighbour have been testing themselves daily and so far have not tested positive...
I let my landlord know that if they need any help with getting food etc, I can get them help through work...
Since the beginning of the pandemic we have been social distancing when interacting and we don't go into each others homes...So there's minimal chance of me catching it from them, mind you. I have more chance of catching it at work where we interact with both vaxxed and unvaxxed clients face to face, however we do all wear masks and social distance...
I’m trying to find the good news in this post ? Perhaps the fact you don’t have Covid?
good news @Bunks
Morning jolk

3 people not having covid
Opportunity to help x 2

Here to help

Generally news is a pretty non random anecdotal sampling of the worst things that are happening, while positive things are often non events, like a city wasn't terror attacked today, and progress often happens slowly and incrementally. Looking to data to see how things have improved is generally a better indicator of the good. For example extreme poverty is continually declining.
Oops sorry @Bunks, I was wondering where my post disappeared to...I thought I had posted it in the Covid threat...I have just looked at the Covid thread and couldn't see my post, so posted another one...
I guess you're right the good news is no Covid symptoms...

The good news is this:
The Real Sangha, good Christians, helpful people exist as the majority.
We can and do increase this capacity, tendency and sukha karmic direction.

My goods news is I have bounced back from Covid with no lingering effects at all.
@SuraShine
Yeah!
Good news made personal. Great news!
Listen up people: We're upright, breathing and above ground. That in itself is a wonderful thing.
We can appreciate even the smallest things in life, like our newly-mown grass being scoured over by the birds looking for tasty morsels, or the fact that my super little doggie brings me so much joy... He's a scamp, and He's such a good companion.
Life is sweet, if we can occasionally just sit, with a cup of tea, and breathe in.... and out.
Had the pleasure of celebrating Songkran (Thai New Year) with the local Thai community today. There is a thai temple near my home.
Lovely photos, Bunks! Happy New Year!
saw a 2ft dead carp in my local pond
Which is good news for any red kites, one reported flying overhead
or possibly any terrapins who are needing a springtime snack
Wonder what killed it. Those things can get HUGE, (1.2 metres) and weigh a ton... Some have been known to live over 30 years...
I think it may have been a climate activist … the local birds were in mourning, very sombre …
Good news: we're back to the 5th Century BC!
We’ve had a number of Good News topics over the years, but I decided to bring back Bunks’ effort from the post-Covid times.
This video really made my morning, if you had a lot of money this seems like a good way to use it. It made my inner ecologist happy…
It is 03:00 AM time for me to stay up or zzz
... or have breakfast
Yep so many choices, May just meditate and or hydrate
... wait I have a cunning plan, not involving a turnip

Apparently there's a whole YouTube channel devoted to good news. Who knew?

They is fools...😁
I have been made a Moderator of the official Walk For Peace Community Group on Facebook.
I told them how long I'd been here, which of course, makes me sound sane and sensible.
They bought it!
Seriously though, I'm honoured and flattered.
As with all responsibility, I'll do my best, and give it my best shot.
What was that thing about wisdom?
The wiser one gets, the more foolish one becomes.
A corollary (?):
Wisdom is earned
Stupidity is free

Ratus ratus to the rescue? But he was a giant rat. So not sure the designation....
This is a viking Buddhist Statue from the 6th CE
Maybe we have them all wrong and they were civil celts? Who knows? Maybe they were the first Berserker Buddhist Evangelicals?
Historically, Buddhism did indeed reach Europe. Perhaps that is behind the early Christians warning about Influences from the East hundreds of years before the Mongol invasion. I am not surprised at the discovery "Viking Buddhist statues" from the 6th century.
I have started making an effort of seeking out and sharing good news. I believe this is necessary, helpful and sanifying (is that a word?) due to the media climate and global events.
My energies are limited, I am limited. I could use your help. Together, we can definitely do it.
What about we take upon ourselves a 30 day challenge of there being at least 1 positive news story on NB for people to read?
If yes, I would open a new thread so that the OP with the intention is at the beginning. Like this post to join.
Basically, if it was already evening where people are living, we would seek out a positive news story and post. There are aggregators for this, it would be 2 minutes, and more about remembering and the intention/willingness to do it.
Might be good communal practice.
I have a good news story to share. In the Netherlands we have decided to get the nation off natural gas, as an effort to reduce climate change impact and also because it’s getting too expensive and unreliable, with our gas supply coming from Norway, Qatar and Russia.
So we have had a notice from the local council that our neighbourhood is due to have gas supply terminated in 2036, and that we need to update our house to find other ways of cooking and heating than by gas-fired central heating, for example. There was a meeting at the council offices, where the plan was explained to us.
The plan for our city is to sink a number of geothermal wells in our local area, from which warm water will arise at 70-80 degrees C which will be used to heat homes, bath water and so on. This will be distributed through so-called ‘warmthnets’ which will be laid under the ground. The company responsible for running the warmth nets will be owned 51% by the local council.
Sometime in 2028-2030 the warmth nets will come online and we will get a proposal for what it will cost us to get connected. Then when the connection is made the gas supply will get turned off, so the house will have to be prepared for that. That means quite a large renewal of the kitchen and the electrical arrangements. It’s going to be quite expensive.
But exciting times, to be at the forefront of the entire nation shifting away from a dependence on fossil fuels for warming houses.
The garden is full of ladybirds! It is beautiful but hard to share as my camera cannot capture this instance so well. Little red buttons flying around and latching to the flowers of our lavender bushes, teresitas, etc. Only thing is I have to be on pool duty to save a few from drowning. In fact....gonna check now.
May you all be happy!
Listened to an interview with the author and YouTuber John Green. He made the point that good news accumulates slowly, while bad news happens all at once. He then said that the front page story for the New York times every day for the last 30 years could have been that fewer children died today than at any time in the past 5,000 years!
Its people grinding away daily, innovating and working on the ground to improve conditions for people all around the world.
Nothing is permanent...
Ladybirds can resist up to 30minutes submerged with some even resisting longer periods of time! So if you see a ladybird and think it is dead, it is not...it is exhausted and just needs to dry up!
I saw a pair of wood ducks in my tree this morning. I couldn't see them clearly through the branches, and ducks don't usually perch in trees, but they looked like ducks. We normally see mallards, here, but I got my bird book out, and wood ducks have very distinctive heads, so I was pretty sure that is what they were, and then when I read the book and it said wood ducks frequently perch in trees, that clinched it. Beautiful ducks!
By setting no goals today (free day) I achieved all of them. Gosh could almost be a Taoist or Zennith.
...that sort of a thing...
