Anyways, there's some musings from this Covid Cabin.
My aunt is in Swiss hospital in cv-19 isolation. πππ
Where is the good? πΌπ½
- Planet turning Greta Green. Hooray.
- It was the worst of times, it was the best of times
- Baby boom coming in 9 months
- Real people. Real solutions. π¦
Should I be wearing full ninja or yashmak with goggles?
How goes your feverings? π§»

Hmm...What would a Buddhist do ???
Feverishly sewing masks. Wish I had something besides white cloth. Maybe sequins?
We have a sufficiency of toilet paper, that much at least is true. But the covid rules of staying inside are getting a bit old. One can only read or listen to so much dhamma in a day... I still have a few other books to read, which is nice. Yesterday I gave my bedroom a thorough clean, changed the sheets, vacuumed rigorously. I was thinking through future career options and did some investigating, for the post-Corona period.
My bodyβs energy is giving me some strange signals, the last few nights Iβve had some intense experiences, last night I felt something near my head, I βreachedβ for it by extending my awareness a little in that direction, and it was like a ball of bitter energy descended on my head and it started tingling all over my body. I felt this bitterness all around, can still feel it now. Usually my energy feels sweet and loving so this is a major change. Curious, a little unpleasant but I can live with it.
Feverings are fevering.
Take care @Kerome
My husband is building guitars and I am reading and trying to find patterns to make face masks that do not require a sewing machine (I am sewing-challenged)
Iβm re-reading this gem as well:
Are you making masks for any specific people or purpose...?
This may - or may not - be of interest...
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/health-51881555/coronavirus-do-face-masks-actually-work
I am knitting squares for a Group called "Blankets for the Homeless". Our local 'Pod' or collection point, actually channels some squares towards other recipients... Hospices for the terminally ill, prem. baby units... so all squares serve a purpose, which is good to know...
Iβm making a few for me. Iβm considered high risk so when I need to venture out for groceries, I want a bit of a buffer. I have disposable gloves to wear as well.
Thanks. Iβve read the pros and cons of face masks and their levels of effectiveness. It may not help that much, but Iβm willing to try it anyway. Iβve got plenty of hand sanitiser, Iβve made my own according to the CDC requirements and given some to friends of mine (via drop offs to their mailboxes).
I am also high risk. I have yet to read any convincing arguments against wearing a mask, or any actual data to support the arguments that have been put forth against doing so. Speculative assertions and prevailing opinion yes, data, no.
What little data there is appears to me to support wearing a mask, not the opposite. There is not enough known about how this virus spreads, and I intend to wear both mask and gloves. I would rather look like a clown for the next twelvemonth than take an even slightly greater chance of ending up sick or in the morgue. My dogs, my wife, my feeder birds, and the flies in my studio would be seriously inconvenienced in either case.
I have this mask in the garden. I feel it will ensure social distancing if used with coughing and if I dance towards people ...
Here to help ππ½π¦ππ€ͺπ¦ π·
Tis said ...The first causality of war is the truth.... and it would seem ...how to 'combat' the spread of this virus is no exception...
However, knowing how to put on and take off a mask is important, especially if one has been out and about around people coughing and sneezing or having to touch surfaces that may be contaminated it's important to know how to take off the mask...and I guess for many high risk people, mask wearing can also act as a psychological comfort of sorts....
I have masks because I'm highly sensitivity to fumes of any kind (and I guess to the virus as well) so I have been wearing one when I have to visit the supermarket and pharmacy....
I see mine as fashion accessories ( however no sequins at the moment but they may come later.... )
Besides...Anthony Hopkins worn a mask well before it was fashionable ...
That is a good look @Shoshin. I think the white jacket will also encourage social distancing and possibly immediate access to medical isolation ...
Some great tips guys ...
Great news..Germany is helping Italy's Lombardy region by flying out critically ill Italians to hospitals in Germany...It would seem "Karuna" virus is spreading...and this is a good thing
Limited range cut to fractional limited range.
No real Federal support - Oligarchs just gifted themselves up to 2 trillion USD and threw table scraps at the common folk. Not following Germany's lead...
family safe so far. People helping people. All positive action at local level.
Everyone stay safe, stay healthy. Don't shoot or stab your cabin mate. Hugs when safe.
Peace to all.
2 trillion usd... that seems an unimaginably huge amount.
It certainly does!!
Works out to be about $6,000 per person in the States.
($2,000,000,000,000 / 330,000,000)
Now think about America's debt!
Friends daughter is a front line nurse. Has headache. Been tested for covid-19, will know in a couple of days if she has to self isolate ... She is off work in case ...
Local GP surgery phoned me about my mother, just a formality. The Dr seemed stressed ... Anyway mother has her meds, so nothing more to do ...
... in better news a fox was in the garden, have not seen them in a while ...π¦
Thank goodness for garden, tiny as it is ...
Gonna try 'zoom' later, see how that works out ...
ππ½ππ
Have physical needs and supplies for now. My mind has always been my favorite playground, so I'm okay with the physical isolation, but do talk on the phone.
The BEST thing about this is that I can lounge around in my bathrobe all day and don't have to fix my hair or put on makeup.
Our Lama is holding a Tara retreat on ZOOM this week, so we are not isolated from our teacher. He is telling us to use these trying times as an opportunity to do more Tonglen meditation.
I watch the news to stay informed and am stunned by how much pain there is in the world right now. Please be well and healthy, all of you.
Funnily enough, my brother feels the same....
Friends of ours were in India in Punjab to take photos of a local festival, when they arrived the hotel had closed because of coronavirus. By way of exception they were allowed to stay one night, and the next morning they were escorted by police to the railway station, where they bought the last two tickets on the dayβs only train to New Delhi. Once there, they managed to get the last two tickets on the last commercial flight back to the UK... now recovering from the adventure in their home near Dartmoor.
Zoom for Cabin residents ...

My husband just finished making a beautiful guitar for a friend of his - who was speechless when he received it last night. I've turned our kitchen into an area of (hopeful) harmony with my aromatherapy oil burner, fresh fruit and a small home office at the kitchen table
Now is a good time to start a new hobby or continue a old one for sure. Yeah its good to see photos of places where the pollution is all gone.
Is this a call for forum members? Whatβs happening @lobster?
I agree, it would be kind of fun to have a group Zoom, maybe if someone felt confident in leading a meditation ? Or we just get together and chat. Dunno. I did online Zazen with a local Zen group last night, was very powerful. Iβm up for it, anyhow π
A relative of my boyfriend fainted three days ago. They called the ambulance but, supposedly because it wasn't Covid, the ambulance left without her. Yesterday, she fainted again, slipped into a coma, and died in the hospital. They still don't know what was wrong. Troubling, to say the least.
My personal fear is that I will develop lung cancer and it will be mistaken for Covid and be treated improperly, but I am a terrible hypochondriac.
We're still fine in our Covid Cabin, though.
That would be lovely @Alex. We could always have audio-only if people were uncertain about video. I do not feel experienced enough to lead a meditation but Iβm sure others here would.
@VimalajΔti, that sounds very difficult. And itβs certainly a bad time for hypochondriacs! Take care
"Cluster" seems to be the buzz word here in the media at the moment.
A commentator mentioned that 30,000 Americans died of the flu last Winter.
You'd expect social distancing to lower that number significantly this year.
Now we are talking ... overcoming Cabin fever. π€¦πΌββοΈ
Zoom is available on ios devices, android and through a browser ...
I tried it yesterday and prefer it to Skype.
Group meditation ... well maybe later. I did hear that some are using it as a virtual pub/bar/inn - bring your own drink ... which in our case would be ambrosia ππ½
So we can have a chat and calm (or at least not laugh) at the hypochondriacs. πΌπ½
The ID is my personal ID on zoom so if setting something up (which I will not do) someone can invite me ... I might even turn up ...
Others can also provide their IDβs if they like ... π
I've got the basic (free) Zoom as I have a paid Skype account already. Everyone is using Zoom at work as our Skype for Business server can't handle the increased workload. The basic account limits meetings to 40 minutes though.
Lots of Buddhist centers, teachers and groups out there using zoom for dharma talks and group sittings. Its a very user friendly system that's easily downloaded, stable, usable through a wide range of systems, can allow an easy shared display of whatever is on your computer, has very crisp live video imaging and is free for most non commercial usages.
The only complaints I've heard so far is called zoom bombing, where the publicly emailed IDs are picked up and anonymously used for introducing potentially offensive materials onto a meeting. Like photo bombing but without the humor.
Anything that ever appears on the zoom site can be copied.
and a now infamous and pretty funny video of some poor smuck who got so blasΓ© with zoom that she inadvertently walked with the smart phone that she was using into her home bathroom in the middle of a office meeting with 12 associates. Oh for a little mindfulness.
12 seriously bored office folks who were initially too shocked to say anything, start losing it in laughter wherein the otherwise engaged bathroom girl realizing what she'd done, drops the phone from her royal mount.
Cheers
Zoom is more secure (in use by British Govt - my sister uses it for her civil service work at Westminster). It has shot to the top of IOS free apps.
40 min time limit does not apply to one on one contact. It is if you are doing a conference call. In the free account, conference calls are limited in number and have a time limit.
If phone bombing occurs from trolls/spammers etc they can be muted and reported. Not a problem.

Please to report my friends daughter, the NHS Cardiac nurse had a chesty cold. Not covid-19. Hopefully she will have proper bio-suits and equipment when back on duty.
Went for a local walk, with my vulnerable mother. She did good. Even came across a cat that was practicing social distancing.
Mindfulness through lockdown. Cool. Opportunity.
Regarding masks
Better late than never.
This is serious. This is the danger of primary focus at this moment. We all have close friends or family who are or will be affected directly by this virus. Stay safe, stay well.
Remember that when this passes, we will hopefully have instilled some safety habits. Be aware of your environment. Continue regularly washing your hands. We will still have the flu and a bunch of other challenges. Check on the safety and well being of at risk neighbors, family and friends. Set a pattern of calls and other measures.
We are all part of a series of communities. let us not get caught looking the other way when others need help or when another disaster strikes. We are all in this together and we all have but one ship we call home.
Peace to all.
You know, when we think of 'The End of the World', and how we as humans might be responsible for it, a lot of people visualise Armageddon, wars, mass-killings, violence, natural disasters, earthquakes, tsunamis, Volcanic explosions, Social anarchy, savagery and destruction...
But I don't think we shall go out with a bang...
I think it's something like this, which will destroy us all; creeping in quietly, silently, in the deadliest way possible; infecting us and laying millions down at a stroke, before we even realise its lethal effect....
Covid-19 has brought the entire world to a standstill, in a way that war and famine have not. This microscopic little virus, this unseen killer, has decimated people and commerce, Capital and profit, and has seen the countries affected struggle practically and financially, to cope with its onslaught.
We have been helpless to halt it, and can only hope to tame it and treat it, but we all have to work together in order to beat it in a unified and communal way.
Perhaps this extraordinary experience has taught us something then, about Human goodness and resilience. Our ability to pull together, in a united way, to overcome the enormous struggle and hardship this has brought many, and conquer the havoc it has wreaked.
If we can but keep the lessons learnt, if we can remember what the positives have been, and strive to maintain them, and permit them to endure even when all danger is past, then maybe, just maybe, we can look at the world in a better light, and work with it, rather than against it...
We can prioritise and do what matters, not what pays... we can focus on The Pure, not the Profit...We can put Life first, and bathe and revel in its wonder, because we will appreciate it so much more...
That was beautifully put @federica would you allow me to copy/paste that into my Facebook feed with proper credit to its source... I think the world needs to hear this message.
You're very welcome. No worries about crediting it. Feel free to share.
It's interesting how we often think about the end of the world...If one thinks about it, the end of the world has been happening from the get go, when the first human with the ability to think about death died..and every death is for the dying person the end of the world....as the psycho-physical phenomenon called the self, has been conditioned to know it...
Dear Friends,
I am moving towards full lock down with only demons and buddhas and peoples prayers and good will and garden birds ... I am in a critical zone. London. π·
Such fun! Breath in death, Breath out rainbows. (Chod practice simplified) π
Have toilet paper ππΌ
Have the ability to meditate β
Can you do puja/metta bhavna/good will sending? Of course! It will reflect back on you ... I am so good to you's
Love you @lobster
Stay safe
Hang in there @lobster. We're under similar lockdown here in Detroit, one of America's "Hotspots" unfortunately. We'll get through this!
Thatβs a very psychedelically hypnotic gif, @lobster...
Take good care of yourself, youβll get through it!
Lockdown is great. ππΌπ
Bushy the squirrel came this morning and birds are often happily bathing in a large circular drip tray.
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts πππ½π
I firmly believe animals know where theyβre loved and tend to come back.
Take care @lobster
Sending good wishes from North Yorkshire!
Metta going to you!
Take care everybody. Best wishes. πππ€π€
Given the lockdown, I find myself trying to meditate in a busier, noisier house. Iβm wondering about listening to some music/sounds through headphones to tune out of the conversations I can hear in the next room.
Are there any recommended ways of doing this? What should I listen to? Should I pay attention to the music as my meditation, or proceed as normal with attention on the breath, body, and mind?
Yes
Whatever vibrations float through you...eg, sound of others speaking creaks of the house, foot steps, cars going by....
It's a good idea to always start with your breath...after a while observing the breath wil become automatic/natural process regardless of the situation one finds oneself in...
"Every moment is a moment of events and no moment passes by without an event...One can not notice a moment without noticing events taking place in that moment...Therefore, the moment one tries to pay bare attention to is...the present moment.."
