Saw an effective demarcation system on the ground yesterday where outside of the entrance to the store as well as inside leading to each cash register was a number of 3ft waiting circles each seperated from each other by a 6 ft line. It seemed that here there was finally a demarcation system that was obvious enough to have everyone adhere to at least a real 6 ft space seperation from each other.
Of course any scientific testing I've seen of cough/sneeze droplet propulsion clearly shows that 12 ft is the minimum distance needed (in neutral air current conditions) to stay out everybody elses potential spraying range.
The social distancing circles for shoppers to stand in are a good idea @how ....
For the most part, people here on the island seem to follow the rules when shopping at the supermarket (we only have the one supermarket), but you will still get the 'odd' one who forgets...Normally there's only two to three shoppers at the most in the aisle (well on the times, I've been there this has been the case)...
The supermarket check out staff all wear gloves and masks plus have a spray bottle of sanitizer and cloth to wipe the conveyor belt down ...The teller operates behind clear plastic cough & sneeze spray drift protection screens, shopper have to pack their own shopping..and there are the lines on the floor where we are meant to stand and wait while the shopper in front is dealt with..There's hand sanitizer at the entrance of the store plus wipes to wipe the trolley hands down...
Hmm perhaps they should have a decontamination spray machine which sprays all shopper has the enter the store
I take each Friday off work at the moment and play teacher for the day with my kids (they are doing online schooling due to Covid-19).
OMG! It's like herding cats.....
Looking forward to the class room being open again.
A few states have started to send kids back and the Victorian Premier (my state) is starting to get a little heat to do the same.
It's about the only thing that the Prime Minister and state Premiers have disagreed on through this whole pandemic i.e. the PM thinks kids should be in school but most the state leaders disagree.
Apparently transmissions of Covid-19 is very low among children but I think the teachers are concerned. Don't blame them.
Education is the state's responsibility so currently they're calling the shots.

Wonderful @lobster its great that you are doing so much for people.
Personally I am just waiting for the covid-19 lockdown to pass. It is encouraging that a few places are starting to lift some restrictions, like Austria and Sweden.
I am feeling for our American friends who are still in the middle of things.
It would seem for governments around the world, finding a middle way between two extremes, ie, opening up/get the economy back on track and still keeping its citizens safe (protected from the virus)...is of the utmost importance...( well I like to think it is, but sadly it would seem some government leaders just don't know how to handle the situation..they are for want of a better term literally at a lost when it comes to this pandemic )
I guess a key thing for them to remember, is that a government can kick start an economy back to life (which as been done on a number of occasions), but it can not bring dead citizens back to life...
They face a choice between economic hardship for a period of time and the possibility of a rising numbers of deaths if they act too soon in opening up their economies...A balance must be found ...
Given the estimated time to develop an effective vaccination or viral treatment
I am afraid that a combination of most lobbyists having huge investments in pressuring the politicians to re-open the economy, along with politicians feeling little voting threat from the groups most medically threatened by this pandemic (the aged and the poor) means that we are likely to see many more repeating waves of infection before the natural immunity from enough of this viruses' surviving hosts (estimated at 60-70% of the general population infected) will neutralize its infectious momentum.
Remember you can conquer the virus with your own bare hands

Thanks, but I think the numbers are that if you take out the New York City area the rest of the US is about on par with much of the rest of the world.
I'm also kind of feeling in general that this isn't something we can altogether avoid. Flatten the curve didn't mean prevent people from catching this forever, it meant slowing the spread so hospitals weren't overloaded and to buy time to build capacity, develop treatments, etc. Just as many people catch the virus with a flattened curve, just over a longer period of time and hopefully with better outcomes.
Unless we keep the world shut down for two years while governments print money to keep people afloat until a vaccine arrives I kind of think we're stuck with herd immunity to get past this.
It seems like the risk for most healthy adults isn't near as bad as initially thought and is about on par with the flu. That doesn't mean it IS the flu though, only 3-11% of people get the flu each year whereas ~70% of people need to have gotten it for herd immunity. Do the math and that's a lot of total people, 5 billion or so worldwide, at a 1% fatality is like 50 million dead in a few years. Most will be elderly but some percentage will be ordinary, healthy individuals.
The total numbers sound catastrophic, but historically speaking isn't out of the ordinary. Most people probably won't have anyone really close to them die and will probably only personally know 1 or 2.
I'm not saying money, money, money matters more than people's lives, I'm just saying that I don't think the pandemic can be avoided without devastating financial costs. Economic depressions also cost lives, economies provide more than nice cars and stacks of cash, they provide food, medicine and purpose for many.
I don't know that I'm right, it just seems to me like the general feeling is that we can avoid the tragedy of this and I don't think we really can. In that light I think facing the reality of the situation will allow for a better outcome than not.
“In light of the high recovery rate of C19 and its predictable dangers to vulnerable populations, it becomes difficult to sustain the rhetoric that elimination is the greater good that warrants diverting a large share of society’s resources… The strictest measures, if ongoing, will only protect the vulnerable now.
But given that most societies have limited resources, this prioritization will impose costs on the lives and livelihoods of those who will be vulnerable later for other reasons. These may include patients who do not receive treatments and diagnoses on time because they are avoiding health care facilities, students whose education has been interrupted, young people who struggle to find jobs in a crippled economy, workers who lost their income, and the families supported by them. Numerous mental illnesses will arise from the economic strain, increased surveillance, shaming and mistrust, the threat of re-occurring lockdowns, and the restrictions against our most natural of human impulses to engage with others and socialize.
Moreover, halting all varieties of progress made when individuals come together (technological innovations, medical discoveries for health conditions not related to C19, environmental solutions) will likely delay critical advancements. These, too, lead to life years lost, not to mention quality life years lost for the vulnerable and non-vulnerable alike.”
From an Australian point of view, we now appear to have all the necessary health care preparation in place (test kits, nurses, hospital beds, ventilators etc.)
The federal government is now hinting at easing restrictions and getting people back to work.
I suspect our state government will be a little more cautious though. Most of these decisions are in their hands.
Watts' financial ideas sound a little like Social Credit. We had a party like that voted into power during the Great Depression, but they never got very far with their 'funny money' plans, and evolved into a social and fiscal right wing party.

You can see in the news that some countries are not being honest about the numbers of coronavirus deaths. Like Russia, with 160,000 cases, 10,000 more cases each day and only a few hundred deaths in total confirmed.
As they say...The first casualty of war (in this case war on Covid19) is the truth
But looking at it from a different angle, it's possible that some countries don't want to panic their citizens even more with the truth (how bad it really is) fearing mass hysteria... ...bearing in mind how the first waves of panic hit the countries when CV19 first arrived...
However it's also possible some countries don't want to look like they are not handling the crises well....
I'm not saying that being selective with the truth is the right thing to do, but I can see the reasoning behind why some countries may choose this kind of fake news...
With governments re-opening their economies, people are going to need to take social distancing measures very seriously. Even a modest jump in the spread rate could lead to hundreds of thousands of more people dying from Covid-19.
